Is it actually worth paying for a VPN?

0/1: Yes
2/3: No
4/5: Maybe
6/7: I don't know
8/9: Can you repeat the question

rolling

rolling

No, they are all honeypots.

only if mullvad

Well that rather depends on what you're trying to accomplish, now doesn't it?

based

Do not

take your meds

Just use Tor

No. You can't trust them to not sell your data.

Ro

Rolled

Depends on what are you doing. If you are not doing anything suspicious/sensitive/illegal it's probably better to stay hidden in the crowd and don't use VPN.
If you pirate stuff it depends where you live. If there is real chance of having your internet cut or getting mailed letters with threats because of copyright infringement, VPN is worth it.
In other use cases VPN might be worth it too, but your first line of defence should be tor.

Rolll

No, the paid ones are dogshit slow.

Run your own VPN in a VM.

Why do VPN providers put so much effort into misrepresenting the ""security"" that they provide?

literally my friend:
dude these days, you are a brainlet if you dont have a vpn!
but then he still uses Chrome

I mainly use vpns to get around censorship. Don't trust them to actually protect your privacy if you do illegal stuff, though. For example many free wifi spots block Jow Forums, so a VPN is good to get around that.

A VPN is good if you are a pirate or want to access region locked stuff.
A VPN is bad if you are a terrorist and want to hide your terrorist activities from governments.
A VPN is good if you are a small time pedo, but middling to better than nothing if you are a major part of the market.

Thanks, I mostly just want to download torrents and not get letters in the mail about it. I used to pay for a VPN when I lived with roommates but have been wary of getting one again since I got my own place. It seems like an obvious trap.

Is this true?

Cryptostorm or perfect privacy are just as good. Mullvad is in 14 eyes so some people extra paranoid avoid it even though it's pretty solid all around.

you can have a vpn on a vps for as low as 15 eur a year

Thanks. How stupid is it for me to pay for mullvad with cash?

Shit, meant not pay with cash and pay with PayPal or some kind of wire.

If you're downloading torrents you have nothing to worry about. If you're swatting streamers and breaking the law it's obviously not the best choice of payment. If they are building a case and you made a payment with Paypal that's obviously going to help them progress and build up evidence. Of course this all comes down to if they already aware of who you are. Most of the time they come to a dead end when a VPN is involved because no logging makes things difficult. They can ask a vpn to log or monitor and they simply dont have to and most wont. Theres a handful that would shut down before logging customers much like the Lavabit email ordeal. The most they can ever usually obtain lawfully from a VPN is customer information and even then if they see your info with 200,000 other people thats not going to get them very far. Thats why crypto and fake emails do wonders because if info is handed over they have a fake email with a btc payment that cant be tracked easily if done correctly

14 eyes literally doesn't have a effect on mullvad, as long as they aren't forced to keep logs under swedish laws, then it doesn't matter.

Im aware much like AirVPN and OVPN. Both have strong security practices but are avoided by some of the super paranoid because of the eyes. If someone is worried about the "eyes" chances are they are up to no good

unless it's based in iceland it's shit

I've used ipvanish ,express VPN VPN ac,air vpn , desu they were all ok I used them for torrents and to access some streaming sites don't use one right now

Just like the Silk Road servers and they fully cooperated with the FBI during the take down. Iceland isnt some magical lawless area for privacy

the tube of vpn protection stops once it hits the internet. that's fine because my data is safe on the internet, right?

HTTPS does a good job unless the website uses Cloudflare. Cloudflare sees everything plain text since they run basically a MITM operation. The fact 80% of the web uses Cloudflare isnt a good thing for people caring about privacy

Yup. What's easier to search through, 6 billion people looking at porn, or 30,000 people, half or which doing shady shit on a VPN.

Self-tagging is the latest thing in big-data

It doesn't matter, government agencies and all the companies they subcontract too can easily bypass SSL (if they don't have the private keys for all the big websites anyway). Do you even Snowden bro?

roll

Congratulations!
You are the 100th person today to post this exact same topic!
For a brief moment you can bask in the glow of unearned attention.

Yes vpns are worth it. Some have an entire team of lawyers that will go to court to keep your information safe and out of the hands of authorities

Snowden?

>no government

HTTPS is kinda shit. They give out certificates to basically anyone. Symantec literally distributed thousands of certificates for google domains to people who weren't google. And apparently they were the "industry leader"

If you are paranoid, yeah.
I run my own VPN server at my home network to bypass my mobile carrier Jow Forums IP range ban by posting from my home's IP address.

Depeniding on what are you planning to do. You probably can

rolling to repeat

Use Tor for browsing you can anonymize and just use Furryfox with Cloudflare DNS and ESNI when doing normalfag stuff because it's all probably running Cloudflare anyway

Because brainlets believe it, giving their product more mass appeal.

I use PIA and I'm ok with that, no problems since 2017.

Tested in court twice! PIA doesnt log thats for sure

Because PIA does what Nordon't

Both of those are shady. PIA hired a bitcoin scammer as their CTO and Nord has extremely weird ties to Tesonet a data mining firm

They see me rollin'

Roll

Why is everyone talking about buying VPN but not one is making their own? I've been using my own private VPN with friends long time before everyone was buying this shit from YouTube ads.

rollen

Depends how much you're paying for. Privacy and piracy make my PIA subscription worth it to me

roll

Rollando.
