The way it works, you subscribe to topics and people you like and block people and topics you don't, eventually, and by eventually i mean like in a week, you will literally have a steady feed of shit pouring in at you non-stop.

As you can imagine this creates an insane positive feedback loop which is why tranny faggots and psycho feminists all congregate there, it makes them feel like their insane beliefs are normal because that's the reality they've constructed for themselves, all made possible by Tumblr.

Now...if someone were smart enough to embrace this mechanism instead of denying its existence in order to preserve the integrity of their deranged mental state, they could use that same system to funnel.....well just about anything towards themselves, including porn, which is what a lot of not crazy people used it for.

This is the only reason anyone gave a shit about tumblr.

That is exactly what it is, some used it as a tool to deliver catered content, others used it as a means of justifying their own mental state.

If you have made it so that all you ever see is "KILL ALL CIS WHITE MEN!!!" then of course you will think that's normal, but often those people completely neglect or even deny the fact that they have blocked and banned their way to the point where that is all they will see because that's how the website works by design.

Then you have people like the ones who frequent this site, who understand how information bubbles work, and they have used that same system to generate an effective topic based content delivery system, in the context of porn you are able to create a very effective system where you essentially set up the bubble to deliver the specific content stream you want on a regular basis based on any criteria you can think of.

Only like feet? Tumblr will deliver 50 feet pics to you a day with minimal noise, fat chicks? no problem, midgets running track? sure, why not.

Tumblr's biggest flaw was that it was too effective, but it is still just a tool.

On tumblr you'd see fascists openly threatening disabled and minority users with death and tumblr would basically just respond to any complaints with some form message about freedom of speech, despite their policy always having sections regarding harassment and funnily enough fascism.

It was great for porn and artists in general, but then they killed the direct access links to the Amazon S3 files which let you download the pictures on Tumblr in their original resolution, all pics were only available in the absolute fucking garbage scaled down resolutions from that point forward. Then eventually they just killed NSFW content all together.
So naturally, unless you like hanging out with the rabid minority of psychos then the website lost pretty much all it's functionality as a content delivery service.

I guess if you still like to use it for harry potter fanfics or some ridiculous shit like that then it is still okay, but for distributing art of any kind the platform is now worthless.

Nothing ever worked. They tried to have a partner program that would pay users and it was ended after a year with only a semi rollout

I don't think Tumblr was ever really that profitable, Verizon probably didn't really give a shit about it and just wanted to clean it up so they could sell it without liability issues, they didn't care if it died as a result because they never really cared about it in the first place.

Reddit has been on the decline since that one kid killed himself. It used to be much better in terms of free speech and content. Anybody could have a community and any community could exist so long as nothing illegal was happening in those subreddits.
