My EE department uses dells running xubuntu, so I wanted a similar environment so I could complete the programming/electronics assignments I started in class at home with minimal hassle. I settled on arch because it doesn't ship desktop environments with retarded defaults, is more up to date than debian and has every package I could possibly need.

Originally because my laptop was so slow that Win 7 was a pain to use (turns out it was due to thermal throttling and I recetly replaced the processor's mayonnaise to remedy that). I've since moved on to a faster one but I've gotten used to the customizability to the point that windows infuriates me.
An example would be unclutter. A simple program that hides your mouse pointer if you don't move it for a certain amount of time. Windows has no such program (technically there are two IIRC, but one is dead and the other has reports of malware with no way to check because it's closed source).

why? : everything in Linux ends with a text file. It is easy to diagnose problems and correct them. Even output to a screen can be captured in a text file. I fix client/server setups but I have worked in mainframe environments. I am an expert in windows and linux server setups and therefore can diagnose whole networks blah blah blah etc etc etc. So why do I prefer Linux, It is because everything is so much easier to set working or to correct if it goes wrong. In windows it's like tick this tick that. You have no real control over what command that tick means, but in Linux you can be very very specific about what you want the computer to do

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

32
Debian
Because it's the polar opposite of windows. Few updates, no breakages. Even dist-upgrades every 2-3 years don't break anything for me. It's top comfy and I use it for work, server, games, anime, shitposting, etc

Half of them specify why they use the specific distro over other distros, rather than why they use linux over windows or MAC OS.
Also people have different reasons,so assuming cause some care alot about security and privacy, that all linux users care about it,and that isnt the case.
This cope is sad.

That's pretty much implied.

Why F? It's pretty comfy. I'd much rather program python than Java or C#. And it's all backend so I don't bother with webshit.
