"I got bored and frustrated with Windows, now I want to be interested and frustrated with Linux"

"It's more secure, way more customizable, I like the way the system works, less malware"

"My job makes me"

It's less of a pain to use, it's easier to use, it's faster, it's not behind DRM.

"That's none of your business." ;3

I'm a hacker

"I have masochistic tendencies"

Good one.

i dont, there is no reason to explain.
in these days having a computer is second nature as breathing. the os is part of having a computer.

It's really the go-to kernel for pretty much all the GNU systems.

It just works.

I've never had sex.

“It’s free”

"Haha are you poor or are you a commie? Actually, guess there's no difference"

“Don’t buy the cow when you get the milk for free”

"I got tired of windows updates"

"Sorry Uzuki, I'm already dating Rin"

"What if I want a steak?"

Its a fun hobby that I enjoy learning about.

I like it more than windows

I know it's Jow Forums but humans dont talk like that and the fact that you dont know that is profoundly sad.

What do you mean?

fpbp

If someone has to ask you why you use linux chances are they already know exactly why. People here are in a bubble and dont realize that no one knows the difference between operating systems. It's either you use a mac or you use windows. There is a large amount of people who dont even know what OS version their computer runs. They cant tell the difference between windows 8 and windows 10

It's better for programming because it's a Unix(like) system and many of tools work better there than in windows (git and ssh as examples). Also since most servers are Linux you'll be avoiding bugs if you just develop and test your code in Linux. Macfags got this too but macs are overpriced shite.

Linux has made quite a decent progress anwyayas, it used to be a drag to use as a daily OS but now you got stuff like Spotify and Netflix working, and Steam with quite a decent amount of games to waste your time.

Even so, I use Linux for work and stuff but for just fucking around I use Windows. I still got to have Windows installed because of Office and also because many of our products are windows apps and sometimes I need to maintain them.

this
I told my sister today that I use Linux and she replied with "whats that?"
She doesnt even know what an OS is

>not shirase sakuya

"I don't want microsoft to steal my loli porn"

>It's less of a pain to use, it's easier to use
LOL

“Can’t have sex with a dead cow”

They don't talk like that but roasties think like that

"Watch me"

>have to use office
Bruh

>Oh so you don't play games? Haha looser.

Some people are cunts and think like that but it has nothing to do with being roasties. By a matter of fact you seem to be lowkey thinking it because your insecurities are probably the side of a mountain.

“K lets get on with it”

>loser
>implying normies don't all use consoles

ive never had to explain it. the only times any one cared they said things like "oh i need to try that," "i wish i learned that," or stupid shit like "wow you must be smart"
employers like it because most servers run linux and I dont need to rely on the admin to know how it works

Meh, I was thinking CGs only, if we were to pick all imas then I'm already dating Miki.
But Sakuyan has been closing up that distance lately.

It's fast as fuck, it's secure, and it's fun. Really though I use macos now.

I don't, I just let them see over my shoulder occasionally.

Almost every user I come across in business - your mom, uncle, aunt, etc can not answer if they are using windows 7 or 8(.1) or 10.

Well some who are hating 10 say the ""new "" windows sucks. Some have XP at home and don't realize how insane that truly is.

Did Linux increase your interest in MacOS for a polished Unix like system?

It did yea, I was mostly using Linux because it was faster originally and fun to play with. After a good amount of rices I realized how I can make it look pretty nice, but getting it to be consistent across all my programs was pretty difficult. That's why I hackintoshed my laptop which is really nice to use now, though I kind of missing tiling in i3wm. I still use void with i3 on my desktop, but for most things except media consumption such as anime I prefer my laptop with MacOS.

So I can tell my normie friends I'm better at computers than them

They don't care

"I'm retarded and windows and macos are too complicated for me. I'm not a genius like you."

Office is a requirement for modern business and there's no way around it. You can argue about the google suits (good enough for internal use), LibreOffice and the others (they still export miss format documents), pdfs (clients don't like PDFs, they like editing and modifying your files), latex (I do actually use Latex for many things like user manuals, however most clients still expect a .docx). Excel is still the gold-standard for ad-hod data manipulation and even to input data into programs, as basic excel files are easily readable by libraries, and PowerPoint is the gold-standard for presentation (stuff liker reveal.js is too barebones for clients).

In short, if you want to be more than a mere coder, you're going to need MS Office.

office.live.com/start/Word.aspx# ?
legit question, does this lack anything compared to full local version?

can't use my reference list plugins

t. academic

I have this thing call self-esteem that makes me not have to explain myself to people.

why would i need to explain that to people tho
no one gives a shit

fpbp

>It's less of a pain to use, it's easier to use
these primarily

"I use it for security, privacy, and control"

I don't, because no one cares that you use Linux.

i don't.
most people don't know what linux or an os is
anyone who is aware of linux is likely already using linux

the fact that you posted this is unprofoundly sad

Attached: 1564627128272.gif (540x357, 639K)

Good for programming.

>what do you mean why? Why you use windows?

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

The fact that you took it so literally is profoundly sad.
Take some pills for your 'tism

1) The existing tooling is great for my work.
2) It's available at no extra cost.
3) Macs are too expensive for me.
4) It's fast.
5) I like the UI customization options (I use XFCE)

I don't.

>It's more secure
On a technological level this is blatantly false.
It's true however that less malware targets linux and most distros teach people somewhat better security practices through "don't download and run random executables".

"im autistic"

Computer's too shit to run windows

>playing dress up with your computer
Grow up

It's more secure in the way that it's much harder for something malicious to run without you explicitly running it.

If I have to explain myself to someone then they probably just wont get it. Whether it be too technically challenging for a cavebrain or just someone who decides to use windows over linux, there's not a lot of convincing one conversation would do. Not that I even care to convince them.

To whom need I explain myself?

I've been a strictly windows user for a long time, i've used Ubuntu for a home laptop for browser and light web work. Since 6 months ago I jumped in and switched my work laptop to Linux.

Terminal and Unix like makes a lot of sense, I like it, I just wish there was money in it for developers for the desktop space. So Mac has become more appealing to me, I'm thinking I'll try and hackintosh my x220 at some point.

"I have autism"

Because I want people to ask me "What is this?" as I work in my laptop.

I'm not a programmer, I don't code, I don't know how to do anything, I'm a tech normie. I just want something not ChromeOS.

Which distro do I use?

Yea the x220 is a really good laptop to hackintosh, I'd really recommend that.
x220.mcdonnelltech.com/

>why yes I'm a virgin, his could you tell?

This. But to be fair you can always run Office using Wine. You just need to configure everything correctly.

Some do, actually. But it could be something exclusive to my country

Something with good software support. I’d say either Debian or Ubuntu. I personally dislike them, due to rusty packages and the whole PPA system is very annoying, but you probably won’t need any cutting edge software if you’re just shitposting. Also there are lots of equally tech illiterate people asking questions online about those distorts, so if you have issues you’re likely to find answers. I personally use manjaro, comfy and just werks, though it requires ever so slightly more tech understanding. Not much more though.

If you want something user friendly then just go for something like Linux Mint or Manjaro. I'd choose Manjaro with XFCE, because it's highly customizable and since the OS is based off of Arch that means you can use the Arch User Repository (AUR) which offers a ton of useful/popular programs that are ported over to the platform by the community. Also the company that created the OS is incorporating, so we'll see lots of great things from them in the future.

It's the first distro I ever installed, and after getting bored of it I kept switching between Ubuntu/Debian/Arch. But in the end I felt the most satisfied with this one. Feel free to try different distors, but for me Manjaro is where I'd put my money as one of the best distros out there.

I just say that it is a Windows 7 theme, no one gives a shit about the reasons even if you explain them.

>people ask you what OS you use
>people notice what OS you use
>somehow you end up talking about the OS you use
This literally never happens.
>you tell other people what OS you use
Then you're a bitch.

>This literally never happens.
>Then you're a bitch.
Depends entirely on the people around you, user. Chill out, have a warm drink or something.

>Chill out
>have a warm drink

It is free and have prober full dark theme support.

"Its faster, more stable, more customizable, gets less viruses, and doesn't spy on me."

there's literally no better answer

I know the open office version lacks several features, and IIRC, there are some functions in excel that are missing from the online version.

One of my tasks at work is to turn excel macros files into actual programs (usually in c++/python). Can't open those in the web viewer.

"I do what I want retard"

Best post ITT.
