Xfce

What's your excuse for not using Xfce?
>Lightweight, highly customizable, you can even make it work like you were using a tiling window manager
>Brings all you need in a desktop without pointless bloat that breaks with every update
>Small project with a helpful userbase, devs are non dicks and know what they're doing, unlike foot ones
>Your waifu will like you more than before
Well, what are you waiting? Install Xfce

i like cunny

cunny

It looks ugly and the file dialog has no thumbnails

but user I have already been using XFCE for 6 years
>the file dialog has no thumbnails
ok retard

Best DE stepping through.

>ok retard
It's true.

works on my system
maybe you accidentally installed gn*me

Post a screenshot then

>infested with gtkancer
gnome team will kill xfce without knowing it existed

alright

did you ever try to crop a picture in viewnior?

>looks ugly
Not on Manjaro and Mint
>file dialog has no thumbnails
Nobody uses this or cares

Do you really think 16x16 thumbnails are acceptable? The preview on the right is also useless because you have to click on each fucking picture if you have to choose one

>Nobody uses this or cares
Uploading pictures from a folder is common, everyone other than Jow Forums autists cares, and Windows always had it
KDE also has it and it's possible to make it work on windows managers like Openbox by changing the environment variables

how do you do this? forgive me for being a brainlet

I put a patch in
/etc/portage/patches/x11-libs/gtk+\:3/0003-applied-iconsize.patch

it could probably be patched + built manually too (i.e. not automatically with portage) but it is a bit more effort

do not be fooled by the number of lines
the only lines that actually matter are the ones with a + or - to the left of them
which kindof shows how much of a cheese this patch is

thanks bud

im planning on using xfce once i get my thinkpad in the mail. only thing is, a ton of people are recommending me i3. any thoughts?

the concepts of these two are so vastly different from each other that even attempting to compare them is retarded. do you want floating? xfce. do you want tiling? i3.

there might be a way though to trick GTK into thinking the theme set the size to 64 or something else
but I have no idea how to do that
I do not feel like spending time learning how GTK themes work

>Uploading pictures from a folder is common
I didn't say it's not. But everyone I know just drags and drops from their file manager to desktop because it's faster and more convenient.

people actually do this? what the fuck? I've never seen anyone do this

>drag and drop
>miss the tiny region
>page loads up the image fullscreen and discards any forms you had filled out
nothing personnel

I'm a pleb who just wants something that looks pretty by default, that's why I prefer Pantheon, with Cinnamon as a second pick.

not customizable enough
shitty documentation
gtk3 a shit

>gtk

If I install Xubuntu, will I not have access to a lot of features of programs that are used on Ubuntu regular? Or is it basically all the same shit, just a different interface?

If you drag a window it lags behind your cursor

Xorg shits the bed on my laptop on whatever release of whatever environment on whatever distro. Wayland just werkz with one line added to /etc/environment. That means GNOME or Sway for now since Plasma Wayland is still a crash fest.

does it takes less battery usage than other DE?

Dolphin + XFCE master race

>tiny region
Not everyone uses a 800x600 screen

>installs half of KDE because his file manager is shit

KEK

>>installs half of KDE because his file manager is shit
It's a few qt packages that are shared with other things like qbittorrent. Nothing KDE-specific.

>>still doesn't have proper thumbnails in the file picker
Are you retarded?

its not "lightweight" its comparable to Windows 7 GUI and is "less bloated than Gnome and KDE" as Gnome and KDE are comparable to Windows 10

what is actually lightweight, is LXDE (comparable to Windows XP GUI)

what is incredibly lightweight, would be icewm (comparable to Windows 95 GUI)

So, Lubuntu is lighter and faster than Xubuntu? Would that be correct?

yes if they have no other differences than their desktop choice, I haven tested either as Im not a fan of these types of "Linux distributions for the former Windows users"

>implying I don't already use it

LXQt, yes. LXQt and even KDE can be lighter than Xfce nowadays because Gtk is so chönky.

retard

>and the file dialog has no thumbnails
It literally does tho.

All of the points can be made about AwesomeWM as well. So I'll keep using that, thank you very much.

I think Cinnamon looks better and it's way more polished and usable.

All of the default applications suck and gtk file picker is trash.

gnome 3 was released
why are you using debian unstable?
>5.2.0, release 2
kek, that shit is not even patched retard
stop using meme distributions, testing/unstable has not even a reason to be maintained while stable releases are not close.
Is like you're thinking debian has enough maintainers to have 3 distributions
