Why is FOSS so unusable?

just install vlc

vlc is foss and is a gui
it's just a matter of prefernces

But Jow Forums seems to have a boner for mpv

it literally says drop files to play
there's also a gui overlay to play/pause/navigate, you don't need shortcuts
there is zero configuration required
>hurr no fucking menubar
commit suicide

Literally just works out of the box what's your problem retard

mpv.net bro. trust me its great. ignore config file autists.

based /a/utist baiting Jow Forumsays into spoonfeeding him

Ya and they have a boner for text editors which use keyboard shortcuts, are fucking dense?

>zero configuration required
the default window sizing, aspect-ratio, and keep-open behavior is gay

Imagine being such a brainlet that memorizing a few hundred keyboard shortcuts is too much of a task for your brain

I had to use VLC the last couple of days since mpv was broken on openSUSE Tumbleweed (latest update thankfully fixed it).

Never seen so many artifacts before. And the video would randomly go completely black every now and then from anywhere to half a second to several seconds. Did VLC actually become worse?

It's easy to use and switching from MPC was both a breeze and well worth it. Sounds like you have trouble coping with the fact that others are using what you don't like.

I use mpv for everything I watched and the only shortcuts I have to memorize use are stay on top and screenshot

Thanks for reminiding me to install mpv, OP!

When you use tens of different programs memorizing keyboard shortcuts for each of them gets taxing. GUIs are great for discoverability.

mpv.net does not have this problem.

mpv.net has context menus and better default keybindings than regular mpv.

mpv.net has gui for settings and input management.

No one actually uses this outside of making webms, unless they like sucking penises of course.

mpv.net has integration with Everything to search for media files without using the windows explorer.

Combined with Icaros Shell Extension, you see the windows explorer thumbnails for media files.

I like using it because it always opens videos a lot quicker compared to other video players and I'm a fan of how "lightweight" it is.

mpv doesn't even have an actual GUI; the GUI you use is provided by a third party. It's a terrible product that's on early alpha at best, but for some reason they keep saying that it's a thing, and retards here keep believing it.

It plays videos and it does it really good.
What else do you need?

based

How do you even make webms with mpv?

You can whatever you want man, all I know is that i understood those shortcuts within a few minutes

>space to play/pause
>arrow keys to seek
>enter to go to the next item in playlist
nobody can possibly remember this
also it's not like there's a bottom bar with pretty much all the controls you need

github.com/ekisu/mpv-webm

>flatshit UWP wannabe gui but somehow even worse
I'd legit rater stick with editing conf files

you are technically still editing conf files in mpv.net; you just have the option to do it through a gui or the old-fashioned way.

how are brainlets like OP capable of using the internet?

Why the fuck would you do anything other than double click to play a video and maybe drag and drop subtitles?
>hundreds of keyboard shortcuts
There's maybe 3 you need to know, it's all optional. If you're too stupid to operate a remote then you shouldn't watch videos at all.
All you need to know:
[ ] - change playback speed
9 0 - change volume (can be done in GUI)
space/right click - pause the video (GUI)
M - mute (GUI)
S - screenshot
L - start/end/clear a loop
3 4 - change brightness
5 6 - change gamma
Up Down - jump 1 minute
Right Left - jump 10 seconds
F - full screen (GUI)
Q - quit
They're mostly intuitive. If you can't memorize this then you either don't need it or you're mentally challenged.

That's because it's infinitely faster to hit one or two keys than to grab a mouse and right click, then navigate through a dozen of options and sub menus. Imagine having to sit up, walk to your TV, then play a GUI maze videogame just to get to fucking saturation controls instead of just hitting a single button on your remote.

It adapts to the video size and doesn't waste any space. It's the best behavior I've ever seen in a video player. Most others don't resize automatically and just leave black rectangles everywhere.

>winblows
Disgusting.

It's good for me because I don't want to see anything other than the video, besides all the basics are IN THE GUI which IT HAS, pic related. Also the fact that you drag the whole window by holding anywhere on the video makes it convenient as fuck. VLC is only good if you use it's minimal UI mode.

Attached: mpv gui.png (1279x570, 1M)

Based and autismpilled

You don't even need playback speed, brightness or gamma.

Nothing wrong with mpv.net or windows.

Attached: Terminal.png (2798x1502, 1.3M)

So don't use it then?

>can't even open a video stream from the clipboard when started
dragging and dropping is so retarded

You don't need any of that autism, I configured it the same way I did MPC, mouse scroll for volume, F for fullscreen, space for pause.
The rest is bloat.

IINA doesn't have this problem.

You set it once and forget about it.
0, 9 to adjust volume
z, x to adjust subtitle timing.

and mpv has by far the easiest way to adjust subtitle timing. MPC-HC and VLC suck in comparison.

You have to be an absolute braindead moron to not be able to figure it out.

Unironically it's because the people developing them know all the shortcuts and are focusing on raw functionality over usability. Most don't care if ppl use their shit.
As for why Jow Forums prefers mpv, it's bc they're weebs that want to make sure their cartoons are 1% crispier. Although mpv does have some nice shit like all the up scaling shit, it just requires copying someone's config or reading the documentation to make one for yourself. It also runs better and has better support on their T60 when watching anime with random codecs vlc doesn't support properly

Have to use keyboard at all.
Except for pause, skip and play, I disabled all key out of the box.

mpv has one shitty default, and that's closing on media end
you don't need to know any shortcuts
the one shortcut you might need is subtitle select

but seriously, it's dead simple:
open the video in your file manager
double click the window for fullscreen like every video player in the last 20, maybe 30 years
there's on-screen controls for playback
it's all really standard stuff

mpv is literally the easiest video player
the only buttons normans need are all on the OSC (play, pause, volume, seek, subtitles)
it is in fact only you, autist mcanimesettings, who needs more functionality than mpv offers on its face. and congratulations! because mpv ALSO allows you to hand select every single video playback variable to make your anime girls as cute as possible, you just have to read the fucking manpage.

Icaros is pretty chad freeware
It just werks™

Left Right Up down - jump 1/10 sec back and forth
f - full screen
[] - playback speed
# - change audio track - fuck anime with dubbed tracks

just install MPC-HC

Install SMplayer

q = quit
shift q = quit and remember location.

That it supports madVR.

It already has most of the filters in the form of scalers.

>you can change the shortcuts to whatever you want
why is everyone ignorant

can someone post config file to watch animu and kinos

I installed it months ago and I didn't have to memorize any keyboard shortcut at all, just checked the manual to tweak like 4 or 5 preferences in the config file. Stop lying on the internet and learn that minimalist software is meant to be used by a specific target audience.

i do

>You don't even need playback speed, brightness or gamma.
You do if you're watching almost 95% of the movies/shows. Shit is literally unwatchable on anything but 1.2 or 1.3 speed because of how slow everything is. YouTube videos are unwatchable unless you set them to 1.5 or 1.75 speed. Saturation/gamma is for getting more brightness on videos with shit quality and in videos that are too dark for "muh atmosphere".

i dont even use shortcuts i just go into my files and click the damn video i wanna watch
not that hard

vo=caca

tu=madre

Install SMPlayer frontend.
It's for people like you OP.

Just use windows media player

Can the windows media player play this:
files.catbox.moe/4lh0u7.webm

>VLC is only good if you use it's minimal UI mode.
only if you hate true blacks you fucking racist

Fuck. Revert libplacebo wm4.

memorize hundreds of shortcuts?

q quit
s screenshot
c caption
f full screen
a audio switch

thst's fucking it and I hardly use a and c

>You have to memorize hundreds of keyboard shortcuts
fucking lmao

Just think for yourself retard.

>drag video into window
>press space for play/pause
Wow, so hard.

cause its so much faster than vlc

For me its the MPC player with CCCP

>mpv is the only media player with shortcuts

Attached: shovelhead.png (960x444, 300K)

>space/clicking to pause/play is too difficult
>using mouse to click OSD buttons is difficult
>using scroll wheel or up/down arrow to change volume is difficult
Are you people actually that retarded?
Fucking use mpv.net
hell you don't even need to do that
you set that shit as default player and you just double click the file whenever you want

How about you bloatards start using a real media player
>FFPlay

Is there a way to bind a key to an arbitrary console command? I want to bind F1 to popping up a list of keyboard shortcuts in another program

>there's maybe 3 you need to know
>lists 18
lmao

Where does it say you need to know all 18? 4 of the ones on the list are in the default GUI and most are intuitive. Try to be less autistic.

Did you even read the OP, retard? Also, it's the only one with good shortcuts.

>speed watcher
>"muh atmosphere"
yeah you're a fucking pleb

If you start using the shortcuts, they'll eventually get stored in your long term memory. It's not like we only have short term memory, so what's the issue?

the part where he says
>All you need to know:

You don't need to know anything, you can continue being dumb.

Am I able to make F1 open a text file? If so, how? Want it to show keybinds.

I'll do that when VLC adds some bloody thumbnail previews.

Attached: mpcweak.png (607x608, 330K)

Dumb troll poster, just do whatever you want

Jow Forums is also full of contrarians. If mpv was so good it would come bundled with most Linux distros instead of VLC/Totem, but guess what? It's shit for hipsters, it only got popular here because its developers are a bunch of weebs and started shitposting about it here, and as you can see some retards really bit the bait.

t. Akemi

tranny player

>double click video file
>video plays
>space to pause
>space to unpause
Ugh it's just so complicated.

Memes won't make that shit player any good.

just use celluloid if you're that retarded

What does the remember location feature use to determine the video is the same one? It works fine for regular files but sometimes I watch large videos while they're downloading and it won't remember the location if I quit and reopen it, so I'm guessing it's not filename or path based.

Your remarks won't do anything either so who cares?

>September 2019
>Still no support for sending HDR metadata to HDR displays on mpv
>MPC-HC+madvr and even VLC has had this feature for the longest time
Defend yourselves, mpv faggots.

It is already good if not better.
