Is there any point in buying a tablet in 2019?

IMHO, not really desu. An Android oled/amoled smartphone with mSD support is all you need these days. Whatever you wanted to do on a tablet could be done on a desktop 4-10X more powerful of the same price anyway (opencl/cuda/SSE/AVX).

The surface series is the only ones worth it

If people want a cheap solution just for note taking in school and need a stylus then you get a galaxy tab s4/s5e/s6 or any of the iPads that support Apple Pencil.
Even that you could just buy something off eBay for the same price, like lenovo soipads
If people want to read manga then they get literally any cheap tablet because Tachiyomi is the best manga app that iOS users wish they had, or e-ink if they're autistic enough to set that up
If you're a parent then you just buy the $50 amazon kindle fire for kids and give it to your child and call it a day, or if you want to spoil them then get them an iPad.
They're for VERY niche use cases.
More often than not the answer is: No. In 2019, not really

There is if you want to look at stuff in the bathroom on a bigger screen than your phone and don’t want to balance a laptop on your legs. But most are overkill price wise.

I have a desktop so there really isn't a need for a laptop, but my phone isn't really a great productivity tool, so tablet is a great in the middle device, I can actually opt for a cheaper phone because I don't need much from it so it balances itself nicely

Be honest here: what would a tablet with the single-core processing power of maybe a pentium 4 be able to do for you?

/thread

>pentium 4
there are many multithreaded apps you shithead
go ahead open a modern website on a p4 or a 1080p 60fps youtube clip

Bretty happy with my iPad Pro sans the lack of trackpad.

If whatever work you want to do is doable on a tablet, it's superior to a laptop due portability with the lower weight/size and ability to, you know, use it like a tablet when you aren't working. Lack of maintenance and usually better battery life is pretty neat too. If you like to draw, it's an obvious pro too.

Ready for the #ARMFUTURE

I'm not talking about HW accelerated tasks (of which ARM heavily relies on) but just basic multi threaded tasks like SW HEVC encoding. Also I said single threaded, of course a modern snapdragon is akin to having multiple P4 cores but that's still shit.

Browsing, shitposting, and controlling 'smart home' appliances while sitting on the couch or in bed.

You don't need to spend much though.

>mouse
Disgusting.

Kill yourself street shitter.

buy a galaxy tab s6 with the cover then
ARM FUTURE

I'm sitting on the toilet with mine right now.

Look at this: youtube.com/watch?v=V1yl2iRSR0U

A pimped out SD 835 tablet can barely hold a candle to fucking celery. Do you REALLY think it's just a massive coincidence ARM is virtually non-existent for HPCs which heavily rely on power efficient CPUs?

>x86 emulation
ARM ONLY FUTURE

>ARMshit

We keep our navigation charts on iPads these days.

Looks too tiny, my current 11" screen is the smallest I can go to comfortably work with two word pages. Besides, I'll miss the pencil too much. Is there a reason styluses that are the shape and size of a normal fucking pen so rare?

SD 835 was damn slow when it was released and has still functional performance for some work (compression and Excel) close to Core M. SD 855 is FAR better, A12 is another step up and A12X is on another level entirely. And during this time Intel barely moved forward.

This was done with windows running on ARM metal and then emulating win32 software but with a specialized x86 code emulate.

Performance hasn't improved as much as they'd like you to believe. One thing I loathe about ARM is they're too cowardly to test their processors for more than 5 minutes under full floating-point 1T an nT benchmarks like HEVC SW encoding on the slow preset so we could see past all the HW accelerated speedhacks.

Meh, their HW acceleration is an important part of the package so skipping on that makes no sense when testing real performance you'd get instead of jerking off to theoretical scores; but yeah obviously the tests need to last longer than 5 min to get a real picture. And sure, the real performance improvements is nowhere near their claims but there was still far more progress than with Intel.

When Adobe finally finishes their iOS port (and from there a version to ARM Windows seems given) we will finally get a crossplatform test for real workloads. Although I guess Excel isn't too bad either (no clue how cut down their ARM version is though)

if its arm based no.

it's fantastic for reading

protip: it's just going to be highly HW accelerated and give results of inferior quality than that of it's x86-64 original implementation.

Also it's pretty important to mention what kind of HW you use because that means you're not even testing the CPU at this point but the GPU (ie opencl) of which of course a desktop GPU (hell even an iGPU) is going to crush.

>Tachiyomi

Hahahahahaha metrourds. Surfaces are laptops, not tablets. No one buys for tablet use.

This, they're not even good laptops. More like a failed abortion of a "tablet"

using it for books and lab spreadsheets

I've been using tablets since the iPad 2 came out and I don't see how I could ever give them up. They're by far the best device for casual reading and web browsing in any situation where I'm not at an actual desk, i.e. in bed, bathroom, on an airplane, or whatever. I know Jow Forums likes e-readers but they're garbage for a lot of the stuff I use the tablet for, like textbooks or magazine.

I'm torn between 10" and 7" tablets, I've had both. 7" is a lot more manageable, I just got a new iPad Mini last week and the form factor is really nice (and critical for me, because I'll be using it in the cockpit of a small airplane) but I definitely miss the bigger screen for everyday use.

>I'll be using it in the cockpit of a small airplane
heads up: those are getting banned and for good reason

I got a Tab S4 cheap open box on ebay for points 1 and 3 in your post. It's great, everything I need it to do from schoolwork to manga and even Dex is nice for when I will need to type up documents, just bring out the keyboard case I bought (not using Samsung's shit one) and a bluetooth mouse.

Mind if you share which keyboard case you got? I'm thinking of getting the Tab S4 myself

>was there ever any point in buying a tablet?
There, fixed that for you.

The iPad Pro is remarkably powerful, that thing is twice as powerful as the i5 Surface at $200 less. Don't even bother talking about Samsung's S6 the 855 is still at least 2 generations behind the A12x.

Street shit harder iJeet.
Your top of the line lagPad gets utterly destroyed by 2 year old Snapdragons in performance. Applel pajeets are years behind.

lol the fuck does this picture even represent? iPad shits on laptop i7s.

Attached: 1.png (670x376, 273K)

>can only post 3kb benchmark loops
Ask me how I know you shit in the street.

They're as cheap or cheaper than most e-ink readers and they do a better job, especially old Samsung oled tablets

>posts benchmark
>those benchmark doesn't mean shit my bullshit program that isn't designed for iOS tho...
Sure thing.

>actual apps that actual people use don't matter
>REEEEEEEE LOOK AT MY MEANINGLESS BENCH LOOPS
Ask me how I know you shit in the street.

Yes

The time in between apps is what matters, this program isn't designed for iOS. You have no clue what you are talking about. BTW the A12 Bionic is designed for maximum battery efficiency, not raw power. The S10 probably lasts 5 hours.

>street shitter gets destroyed just like his lagToy
>starts to make shit up as his fruit delusion collapses around him
AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Attached: 1556415134434.png (928x1000, 348K)

>here's my blog to prove my point
Again post actual benchmarks not bullshit you pull out of your ass.

Post actual app speed test instead of your debunked poomarks Rakesh.

Yeah, the performance is pretty good although it's nothing TOO crazy, I always manage to make it hick up for half a second when switching to Garageband. Too bad iOS version only has 32 tracks, so doubt it's enough to really push it. Using a 100MP canvas in SketchBook and drawing something gigantic fast also leads to slowdowns … then again, what kind of madman does need 12000x8330 pixels to draw.

This. My Surface Book from 2015 is still going strong. All day battery is very nice.

App launch speed will never the be same you retard because its not the same fucking version. What part of this don't you seem to understand? The ONLY test where anything beats an iOS device that you keep fucking posting is bullshit. Again post actual benchmarks.

Don't bother, iTards are subhuman trash. They don't understand the concept of fact and reality, they base all their beliefs on emotion. They are cattle, and they regurgitate whatever their owner tells them to.

>gets destroyed in an argument
>pretend to be somebody else
lol pathetic...

>itoddler is this new to 4chins
Back to your designated shitting street iJeet.

>App launch speed
Is 99% of actual phone usage by real people. Your pajeetbench is completely out of touch with real world usage scenarios and is fucking worthless. Nobody cares that your fruit toy can spin a fidgetspinner 20% faster when it's a laggy piece of shit in real apps and lags like hell after a year of lagOS updates.

>20:49:05
>20:50:04
lol right sure thing.

Thanks for proving yourself it's not samefag, newfag.

>loads app 0,5 secs faster
>it crashes because there is no Q/A in Lagdroid store
>"maybe, I need to update my device to the newest version"
>"woops, there are no updates"
Poorfags will defend this.

You do understand the time posted is HH:MM:SS right?

You do understand toilets are for shitting and not worshipping right iJeet?

>no argument
>m-muh pajeet
dude you're fucking retarded.

>iJeet gets utterly destroyed
>haha look at me post memes!
Meanwhile, lagPhones shit the bed 363 days after release. Fact.

Attached: 1550894849635.png (994x961, 335K)

>option to prolong usage which is optional and needs YOU to activate
>muh throttling
Oke.

Also please, since you like posting funny pictures so much and are obsessed about India ... explain this:

Attached: Screenshot 2019-09-15 at 06.03.16.png (691x393, 346K)

I'm aware of overheating issues, but I haven't heard anything about a ban, in fact the FAA just recently loosened restrictions on them in commercial aircraft.

Use mine to multitask (Watch videos while reading a book), larger display on the go for watching videos, and for mpbigger print when reading pirated ebooks.

Seconded please
I too wish to know which 3rd party keyboard you got that's not shit.

>optional feature to improve battery life
Meanwhile on Android you don’t get a choice at all. What happened to customization being Androids selling point?

Androids don't need that """""""feature""""""" because they don't come with shit tier tiny 1000mah batteries like lagPhones do, which wear out in a year from the constant twice or thrice a day charging.

> constant twice or thrice a day charging
Well, stop using your phone as a vibrator and buy a dedicated devices for it, brainlet.

Shit, what a coincidence OP! I forgot my phone at work so right now I'm on the toilet with my cheapo Windows 10 tablet that I barely use. I open Jow Forums and this is the first thread the pops up.

>still use my ipad 4 daily
whenever I shit or lay in bed or the couch I use it to browse the, web or shitpost here. most convienient for consuming manga.
if it breaks, still looks good though, I might get a cheap new android tab. Hate that you need itunes to do anything with it

Tablets are great for media consumption, drawing or just doing things you'd normally do on a laptop through a much smaller and convenient device.

The Surface is literally just a laptop except the keyboard is detachable and the internals are behind the screen. Obviously not really intended at all for use as a tablet.

The cheapest solution for note-taking in school is literally paper and a pen.

oh no, a youtuber did a 'totally scientific bro trust me' test.

>oh no, a street shitter got paid by apple to run a faked benchmark

Attached: 1542453510135.png (817x1337, 322K)

>dude shut up youtubers are based
>here's a picture of an indian
>you're trolled epic style

/thread

lol no programs

if amdfags can wait for drivers/hardware releases to beat nvidia/intel then you can wait for THE ARM FUTURE

i use tablets exclusively when i'm not at home because i don't like small phone screens which everyone else seems to love for some unknown reason

>Tablets are great for media consumption
>Surface is just laptop and not suitable for this
damn i didn't know media consumption is such a difficult task

I'd love to know what keyboard case you're using too.

For me the peak performance will always be Notebook with touch screen which can rotate display 180 degrees + inbuilt touch pen.
Currently owning Lenovo L380.
If I want to game on it I will just use Streaming through steam on my desktop.
People only complain about how heavy and unwieldy the tablet configuration is, which I found is fucking bullshit. Unless you are a woman or twink manlet.

Attached: 07.png (2000x2000, 910K)

>Is there any point in buying a tablet in 2019?
A tablet is my main device at home. I watch YT and surf the web, most of the time stretched out on my living room couch, but because of batteries and Wi-Fi, crapping and watching Netfix or listening to podcasts and washing dishes works just fine too.

tl;dr tablet good

I watch videos on a tablet in bed.

>I watch videos on a tablet in bed.
How can anyone get to sleep without a tablet beside them?

They have some specialty uses, for example I use one as a remote for Kodi. I can use the same UI I have on my screen, preview a show on the tablet while something else is playing on the TV, etc.

My Nexus 7 purpose in life is to play a slideshow of 10,000+ anime images SFW and NSFW on my wall

No, nobody actually reads anything anymore

They are good for media consumption and simple on the go tasks like writing emails or notes. Pairs well with my iPhone and iMac : ^ )

For cum tributes

>EFB developers in charge of making Android versions that aren't massively gimped on features compared to iOS
Besides everyone seems to use them because they JUST WERK, except when locked inside a 140F cockpit greenhouse for a couple of hours

They aren't going anywhere

I got one that stays in the kitchen 100%. recipes and radio control.

They're great for porn, reading mangas in the couch and youtube. That's all I use mine for

8 or 10
which size is better mate?

Pdf machine with easy annotations and handwritten notes.
YouTube
Handwritten drafts before I tikz them later on a real computer.
I wish I could run emacs on my ipad too.
Instead I contempt with Google colab as an ipython notebook

Surface are terrible tablets (because of Windows) and subpar laptops (because of Windows and the stupid cover)

8" is more convenient, but few manufacturers bother with the format these days.

No.

Need to draw? Get a digitizer

Need portability? Just use a phablet

Need power with a touchscreen? get a 2-in-1

gfs love tablets to play games

>get 3 devices that suck at everything but a single task instead of one combining it all
