as soon as you grow out of videogayming you can get by with nothing but a cheap $100 thinkpad and your phone. anything other than that is bloat.

this is so fucking true
Instead of always looking for upgrades I started fixing old hardware and using that instead because I realised how much money I was wasting on atual children's toys

t. NEET

so you now spend time paying to watch movies or series instead

100%

PAYING FOR MEDIA?! LMAOOOO

Attached: 1563295916126.png (460x689, 519K)

that's an absolutely retarded assumption to make on Jow Forums.
why the fuck would I want to pay for media?
I haven't done that in years.

>paying

>grow out of books
>grow out of music
>grow out of film
Do you see how retarded you sound?

Sucks bro. Maybe you'll be a mature adult one day.

99.9% of video games out there today are intended for children. Doesn't matter if it's an M-rated game, the majority of its players will still be children. The aesthetics of the gaming hardware reflects this perfectly as well. Everything computer case has to have a glass window and every component and every peripheral has to have RGB in it now because children love that.

The era of good storylines in video games is over because children can't comprehend them and the era of genuine multiplayer competition is over because children who can't get good can just use their parents' credit card to pay for stats and items instead of having to earn them.

If gaming wasn't exclusively for children in the past, it sure as hell is now.

>he STILL reads books, listens to music AND watches films

Attached: 1550104232791.png (645x720, 6K)

Do you know those 30-something year olds that never grow out of Lego or some shit like that? Not even D&D or board games or card games, literally just hoarding plastic toys for themselves.

maybe one day you will have balanced life and wont need nonstop escapism u fucking retard

>PLAYING instruments
Yikes. If you do anything more than stare at a bare concrete wall, its definitely BLOAT.

>video games are exactly like lego
Seek help for your autism

I mean you can still play countless games on an old thinkpad, my x220 can handle N64 emulation and everything below that without any issues, so there are a ton of great games for it

not a thinkpad, but I built my fx-8350/GTX780 pc in 2013 and haven't even thought about needing to upgrade it since outside of hard drives.

retards who upgrade every other year are literally throwing away money.

being a child / woman is consuming media
being an adult is creating it

partially true, if you want to run android studio you need at least 4 gigs but that's the most I see anybody needing for non-industrial purposes

Lmao and do what? Read books? Most of that shit is for children.

>make beefy 6-core gaming rig back in 2009 with Win7
>grow out of gaymes
>haven't needed to upgrade for 10 years

Not him, but I even stopped consuming such things. After so many works of fiction under my belt I've come to the realization that they are all the same and all rife with inane propaganda.

>paying for entertainment
lol

>books
Glorified, well-edited blog posts for the most part.

>music
Instrumentals are still good to a point, but anything with lyrics is more or less shit. Playing instruments and making your own music is far far better.

Shit.

>video games
Shit.

>entertainment that isn't based around face-to-face interaction with another human being
You may as well just sit down and masturbate until you die. Grow up.

Not reading philosophy in current year... You're just going to stay stupid and have stupid, uninformed opinions.

Don't pretend it's anything to be proud of.
>can't enjoy anything and wageslaving till death.

>/v/ redditors actually believe that playing vidya gaymz is comparable to reading books

Why would I read philosophy when I can listen to The Joe Rogan Experience?

You can still play (cooler) games on dated ass hardware.

Games became pretty gay by 2006.

Instead of re-inventing the wheel, they dumbed shit down, over-watered it. It sucks major tits.

Compare FFXI to whatever shitfuck MMO kids play these days.

>this entire post
Seek help you godless bastard

>FF14 is dumbed down and over-watered compared to FF11
Found the luddite

thanks for the laugh mane

Some bitter motherfuckers ITT. I'm sorry you can't have fun anymore.

Once you grow up you'll realize there's more fun things you can do other than sitting inside and staring at a screen for hours on end. Climb a mountain or have sex or both.

Ironic since I posted that right after getting back from church (Christian btw).

games:
>interacting with very limited fantasy made up by someone else, obeying his rules, all the time listening to the same retarded shitty 20-second battle music with 2 accords over and over again, pressing the same fucking buttons to do literally the same shit but with different look every fucking time
>you're literally an autist who just stuffs squares, circles and triangles into the right hole to get a reward
books:
>your own fantasy in setting of author's script, you're just spectating a wonderful story, the only effort you need is turn on your brain and imagine shit on your own
>this also can be a really useful book: there are books about everything and you can learn new shit and develop something new throughout your entire life
films:
>just turn off your brain, relax and enjoy a great picture without having to deal with bugs, boring stupid enemies, online-harassment or grinding
There are few games I admire, but they take few weeks of your time at max summed up, and once you finish them you wouldn't want to play them again in several years. I'm not maximalist but I agree that most games are retarded and you just grow out one day: there are too many things better than this.

Attached: antinatalist.png (2532x1366, 1.34M)

No, also the majority are adults, and have been for over a decade.

Every video game system has bright colors and lights, it was more chlidish in the past, not present. The SNES was bright and colorful for children.

I'm not even anti-vidya but stop pretending only genre fiction books exist.

Literally next sentence is about non-fiction books. Learn to fucking read.

The best parts about these threads is all the vidya loving manchildren come in with sarcastic remarks like . Protip, videogames are meant for everyone in the sense they want you to consume and play without thinking. Anti-cheat system wants to scan all my files on the computer? No problem! Game wants me to pay more money for content that was originally going to be included? No problem! There's going to be a new game even though the rest of the series was exactly the same? No problem! Many of these games are not just designed but engineered to be as addictive as possible to keep your attention. You're so dependent on these games that you don't realize you're the one being played.

Senpai for one looking to get into philosophy what would you recommend? Another user recommended The Kybalion of Hermes Trismegistus, just wondering what do you read?

That's why I built my current system as cheaply as possible when I moved. I used to have a Haswell 4790K system from that era, and I believe it's still faster than the "new" stuff I've got now. (Ryzen 5 2600)
I still play on occasion, though I made a point to spend the bare minimum on hardware as it truly is a bad return on investment to pay for enthusiast "gaming" hardware.

You just described nonfiction books in the next sentence. There's still literary fiction which is neither
>your own fantasy in setting of author's script, you're just spectating a wonderful story, the only effort you need is turn on your brain and imagine shit on your own
>books about everything and you can learn new shit and develop something new throughout your entire life

>games?
>I only play racing sims or grand strategy these days son
>yep, nothing like simulating a modded AE86 driving on the nurburgring or a japanese race track at night with rain
>thats the only games I need siip

Attached: siiip.jpg (470x529, 39K)

* some restrictions apply

>Birth video linked to porn website
I'M GONNA COOOO

I wish I could still play my racing sims... I keep telling myself its something different, that it would be sim racing, not playing video games. But I know thats not true, and if I started playing them again I would slip right back into my video game addiction. Its time for me to move on.

>never obsolete

This was actually my first "own" PC, I remember maxing the RAM out, putting a video card in it, and upgrading the hard drive before finally getting rid of that clunker. I remember before XP finally worked out the kinks, I was reinstalling that OEM Windows ME once a month, another great pos Microsoft put out before releasing a serious one.

Unless you, y'know, have other hobbies or a profession which require a decent computer, like music production, or video editing, or working with vector graphics, or engineering software, or...

Yeah man, games with branching narratives don't exist, neither do sandboxes. All games are linear experiences and other structures can't possibly exist. Honestly, you sound like a complete idiot.

Books: literally anything, but the reader is a passive observer that is nonetheless relied upon to imagine the entire world, which can get kinda annoying when you don’t remember what a Tabaxi looks like
Films: Again, passive observer, but everything in sight and sound is provided for you. Objectively superior for creating uniformity of experience, fucking terrible if you want to do anything the MPAA or FCC don’t like, such as illustrating an intimate relationship between characters. Also very time-compressed compared to books, making a long story much less viable.
Games: you are an active participant in the game’s story. Your skill determines how far the story progresses, and in the best titles, your choices dictate the outcome of the story. There’s a lot of fucking potential for games as a storytelling medium, it’s just that folks get caught up in playing the shiny new wrapper that the studio slapped on instead of appreciating story.

>sandbox
Garbage

Generic fantasy #5373827

I like how you have the audacity to reply after being called out for mindlessly trying to encompass the creative potential of video games into an incredibly narrow and ignorant view.

hit me right in the feels op my first computer i bought myself was a emachines 633ids

>it's bad because I say it is
Sasuga, user.
>generic fantasy
Yeah, it's definitely only fantasy, there hasn't been a focus on sci-fi or alternate history in games for the past decade at all. Fiction books are almost always narratively linear, save for a few specific cases like Goosebumps, which is literally 4kids. They're limited in comparison to games, which, especially in text adventures, allow for the possibility of much more complex narratives.

You're probably right if you're only talking about mainstream AAA titles with console versions and all that shit. I'd argue that, rather than actual children, it's actually manchildren who make up most of the market though, casual gamer dudebros who come from work and play CoD or Madden or whatever and have the disposable income to sink into microtransactions etc.

There's a very healthy market in the PC indie/small dev world making games that are actually intended for adults, including ones with real multiplayer competition and zero handholding etc.

I'm pretty much over gaming but I still play a lot because it's a way to connect with my old friends who are no longer close enough to see regularly in person. I also use flight simulators as training aids, something that requires pretty powerful hardware because they're very complex games that tend to have poor optimization.

Reading fiction after hs is infantile. Reading manuals and some non-fiction is ok, but those of you who pretend to be smartasses because you read stupid childish fantasy like Tolkien or some meaningless /lit/-tier "philosophy" (Spergler, Evola, Land etc) are in fact more stupid than most if not all gamers and weebs.

I guess Shakespeare, Cervantes or Dostoyevski are for children now

"get by" sounds about right
web browsing (i.e. 99% of what you're doing when everything is an electron app) is slow as shit without recent gaming PC tier hardware
doesn't have to be the latest and greatest, five year old midrange is fine, but any $100 laptop is pure suffering

Not as bright as the Nintendo Wii with its bright, glossy white color. The SNES had a drab, matte gray color.

Attached: 41XM4A0DD6L._SX342_.jpg (342x309, 10K)

>complex narratives

Even with the branching, there's not much of a narrative when the total in-game text is less than 10 pages long.

You're both retarded

>it's old so it's good
Reading is for retards. Don't confuse intelligence with being able to regurgitate another's ideas.

What's your highest level of education?

are you seriously saying reading a book is stupid?

I'm one of them because Lego is super comfy
fuck women I do whatever the fuck I want

99.9% of quoted statistics are fabricated.

most those people living balanced lives seem to just spend all their time doing something else. Sometimes its just working or slaving away to take care of kids. Nothing wrong with any of that people should do what they want to do with their free time. I personally love video games but telling someone who have no interest they should keep playing in asinine and unfair. Likewise they shouldn't tell me to go do what ever the fuck they got into when I have no interest in doing it. I have one life and I intend to spend it doing what I like to do and what I have to do to survive. Not wasting time on other peoples bullshit just so I can virtue signal on twitter that I gave up video games to become a christ cuck or some other fucking bullshit.

your post made me lol so hard I screened it, unironically starting a cringe complication just for you

>lol
>cringe

Hello, Luke. When are you going to start posting videos again?

that sounds fun though, if my only alternative to my current life was to be like that I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Yikes. Have read, ignorantcel.

>Unless you, y'know, have other hobbies or a profession which require a decent computer, like music production, or video editing, or working with vector graphics, or engineering software, or...
This.

You can choose to not play bottom of the barrel dreck. For example - Witcher 3. It's basically an art house film set in the middle ages, with the added benefit of it being interactive and you deciding the outcome of it.
What I'm saying is - it's not all bad. Far from it.

we played a different game

> grow into homeserver
> want a threadripper workstation running 10 vms

everyone's intuition is that copyright as it's used today is utter bullshit but where's the proper argument against it? Is it like abortion or something where there's really no good answer?

nobody's even saying copyright is wrong there, we just don't give a shit
piracy is really easy to not be a moralfag about

>People who write will do so for very little return. Just as people who produce all arts will do so for very little return. Just as people who engage in research will usually do so for very little return. There is no reason provide support when the net result of that support is the conversion of ART FROM A CIVIC COMMONS TO PRIVATE ENTERPRISE. In fact, under that criteria, it is immoral to issue copyrights.

Is it possible to find one of these 90s biege cases, but that will fit a modern motherboard and video card, and also vaguely decent cooling?

>I'm glad I don't spend my valuable time playing videogames anymore.
>Time to watch some anime!

>paying to watch movies or series instead
i went from using a VCR to timeshift TV, to renting and copying dvd's, to just downloading media
i've been downloading everything i watch since about 2006, i currently have software which downloads things for me

I just realized I haven't upgraded my system in ~7 years. Still using this exact same configuration from circa 2012 except now it's running Linux.

I look forward to the intelectards in this thread fuming at the realisation that the normies they so despise have broken into their head.

The ATX form factor dates back to the mid 90s so it shouldn't be harder than using any other ATX case and if you don't mind getting a bit creative with the cooling you could fit an absolute monster of a build in one(pic related). Also the reason they're beige is because exposure to UV light yellows out the plastic they're made of. They were white when they were new.

Like I said before it's just another generic fantasy story

>PAYING FOR MEDIA?! LMAOOOO
I do both. Loads of streaming services subscriptions can be subbed on the cheap using a VPN. I pay 3 euros for Netflix a month, around 1 euro for Tidal. Just sub once using a poor country and get it cheap. That 4 euros a month is worth it not downloading stuff. For things not on Netflix and Tidal there's a nas which automatically downloads stuff. It's not that expensive if you take a second and think about what ur doing and where the money is going.

Solution is simple. Don't rush off to bay every new release but wait for reviews and finally work on that backlog. Don't fall for hyped bullshit cuz 99% that gets released is bullshit anyways. Always has been, but now marketing budgets and exposure is so much bigger and idiots keep pre ordering like retards. Also baking has gone mailstream so there's more money to be made and more exposure to titles like pubg, Fortnite and other easy to get in, easy pay to win shit.
I bought Two point hospital some time ago in a sale, game is fun. In the backlog im playing Titan Quest. Don't care if it's an older title, it's fun.
