Quality control is one major aspect that you can change at least. And I'm not an expert on manufacturing nand flash but I'm 100% certain that there is a ton of other shit you can change to make it worse.

its a pretty basic (relatively) process that’s down to a science at this point, and its all more or less standardized
different processes have better or worse yields, but not better or worse end products; either the chip works or it doesnt
