Why don't you use a Raspberry Pi 4 as your main computer, Jow Forums?

Why don't you use a Raspberry Pi 4 as your main computer, Jow Forums?
I thought Jow Forums loved computing minimalism?

yahoo yippee letsa go

I am right now. It's based.

I wanna cum on it!

They don't support CUDA.

but we're all about FORTNNNNIIIIIIIITTTTTEEEEE BABBBBBBBBYYYYYYYYY
YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

Thinkpads are much better
For what pvrpose?

How hot is it with that heatsink and fan?

A flat 40C though it's admittedly overkill.
Simply adding a tiny passive heatsink will keep it under 60C and prevent thermal throttling.

This is mostly for looks unless you're gonna overclock it as well.

How well does this thing do as a server board?
I keep an old atom netbook around and it still has 10x the bogomips single core performance over anything I've been able to dig up for the pi4.

My flirc case also keeps it below 50C

I use it as a server instead.

This uses a old Intel fan and a heatsink off a broken Voodoo 3 and idles under 30C and under load stays under 40C.

This is exactly what I want. i want a tiny desktop that has very low temperatures.

daww!

>$55 for the board
>$100 for a monitor
>$30 for sdcard, adapters, cables, etc.
>$35 for a wireless keyboard and/or mouse
>cooling block or a good case will run you another $20
>$250

They market this thing as a super cheap desktop replacement, but it costs a lot to get started if you don't already have all the accessories lying around, a used thinkpad or even a cheap low end x86 laptop will outperform it, cost less and it even comes with a battery.

>minimalism

>shit sticking out of it from every direction

DESU i still want one for an emulator box

Funny, I just bought one to use as my main computer and complete "The C Programming Language". Already have a spare monitor, but I'll get the 7" touchscreen next month.

disk io is pretty garbage, otherwise it's fine for low req programs/services

I was browsing about the pi today and saw you can use the RISC OS on it. Cool.

Is watching youtube on a pi 4 still untenable?

Its a perfect homer server and perfect to hook up to a TV, but I def would not say its powerful enough for a Jow Forums user to replace his desktop for power use.

Youtube on pi 4 is good now.

Jealous desu senpai, but those things get pricey once you upgrade the parts to decent ram and storage.

You shouldn't count the monitor. You could pick up a used 4:3 lcd at a consignment store for like $10. You can get wireless kbds like the k400 on sale for like $20. Can get an acrylic case with cooling fan for $10 on amazon.

I use the nvidia jetson nano
>MAD btfo

At that pricepoint, just buy a used optiplex.

thanks for the feedback. I'm gonna give it a try, it'll be fun!

use the gpio and hook up a dedicated hardware compressor on a chip

Wake me up when I can write and run OpenGL 4.30 shaders on it
