If so maybe never due to diminishing returns, it would probably be faster to just invent brain-computer interfacing that sends signals to your perception center that manipulates you into perceiving something as a human. However we may get to like 95% similar within a few decades, I believe. Same for social AI, language models etc is progressing at a tremendous pace, GPT-2 for example can generate some pieces of text with context and coherence that would amaze researchers from just 10 years ago.

That's nonsense. 1) Even if we had not progressed at all towards an AGI, we most certainly have progressed with what will undoubtedly be used as building blocks of AGI, such as computing power and artificial neural networks, but 2) we actually HAVE progressed towards actual AGI, some of our systems are remarkably versatile and can solve complex and general problems in their domains, it's just that the domain isn't quite as open-ended as real-life yet. But if you asked a researcher 50 years ago what he would consider the threshold between strong vs weak AI, it's likely we have already passed it with these systems, it's just that the goalpost keeps getting moved. Even when we do invent an artificial agent that can influence the real world to achieve its goals with equal success to that of a human, chances are many skeptics would still not call it AGI due to some arbitrary caveat in which the system differs from an actual human in its methods or implementation.
