Ubuntu realized that every venture outside of the cloud/servers was a waste of time and wasn't making them any money. So, they more-or-less killed off every desktop project they had, and killed off their mobile projects altogether. Ironically, I've read that demand for the Ubuntu desktop has gotten much higher, since its usage in the cloud/servers has gotten much higher, and thus, companies/developers have been wanting to use the same system their backends run on. But, outside of that, the "Ubuntu for everyone" idea is pretty much stone-cold dead.

Obviously Microsoft and Canonical should make a phone together
