if only KDE had proper fuse integration similar to GVFS. It can't even properly handle network share username and password unless you manually mount with cifs-mount and store your username + password in plaintext or enter it everytime.

Gnome is sluggish and featureless. KDE has a fuckton of features but it's not exactly smooth either due to its compositor. XFCE is a dinosaur that's not worth revisiting. Cinnamon is everything but stable. MATE is the winning one here.

Depends on your hardware. Tons of people have problems with screen tearing in XFCE and some other environments.

They are all shit but gnome is standard shit and making it look like gnome2 is pretty easy. The biggest problem is that gnome breaks like crazy every release for months, to the point where it is almost never usable on rolling or fast release cycle. Fedora workstation would literally be the perfect distro for most users if they didn't let cancer gnome ruin half their releases. If they put 5% of the money into XFCE or Cinnamon development that they do into Gnome, they would have no problems.

I really like my MATE setup. I was running KDE but then they participated in some climate hoax protest so I ditched them.

KDE would be the master race DE if they only had a decent Windows 98 theme like KDE4 had.
