My S7 Edge has the same setting, and going to 1080p isn't that much of a difference though everything is blurrier. 720p is blocky and pixelated though.

This can be due to a better panel and not exactly higher resolution. Could've been an update from a 1080p IPS LCD screen to a 1440p AMOLED. And even a 1080p AMOLED would've made a difference.

50hz is fine. 360p is fine for videos. 760p is technically high quality on large screens.

First of all, the image you're seeing is equivalent to "Fill Screen" instead of "Fit to Screen". The latter will have no obstruction of video. Only mental midgets would use the former option. Second, the notch paradoxically saves screen space because you can fit notification icons in the corners to get them out of the way. If no notch, then imagine the wasted screen space in between the corner notification icons. You wouldn't be able to fit anything meaningful in there.

The touch screen stopped working after 4 years and I finally upgraded, got a samsung J7, that thing actually made me like smartphones since I could read PDFs and watch videos comfortably. Sadly got it stolen.
