You can't play 480p web content on a 386, you can't play 720p smoothly on a Pentium II, you can't play 1080p smoothly on a core 2, why would you expect to play 4k smoothly on an i5 2500?

Youtube scales bitrate with resolution though, to such an extent that some youtube channels have tried to meme the system by upscaling to 1440p purely to get more bitrate from youtube

Bigger image takes more space. Of course higher resolution image will have higher bitrate, but it doesn't matter if the bitrate inadequate for the given resolution. Pic related is 10K footage.
1080p and even 720p movies look just fine on my 32" 1440p monitor when they aren't compressed to shit. Youtube resolutions are a joke to fool the masses. They're doing pretty much the same shit as YiFY.
