How long will it take for 4k to become as commonplace as 1080p is?
How long will it take for 4k to become as commonplace as 1080p is?
2030
Computer displays:
- 1440p
- High refresh rate
- HDR (greater max brightness, greater colour coverage)
- 4K
Each step needs more power GPUs, or cheaper display technology. HDMI has enough bandwidth, I think.
TVs:
4K TVs already exist?
Need a higher bitrate per channel?
Need set-top boxes with enough grunt to handle 4K?
Another decade.
Even with around 5 years of hype it's still struggling to break out of 30Hz.
Our eyes can't see more than 720p
We don't need screens larger than 32"
How long did it take for 1024x768 to become obsolete? There's you're answer.
On the PC we went straight past it to 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 as soon as we could afford to but the monitors.
First ones right, second is bullshit
humans can't see more than 1366x768
God I want to run my tongue over that flat tummy
She's ugly wtf OP
Do you have a problem with brown girls?
When they're cheaper. I've been trying to find a ~400 dollar 4k to pair with my fakedr400 1440 and they all just kind of suck.
c
same but I have a higher budget. im split between getting a 1440p or 4k panel. I'm looking at the LG 27GL850-B for having one of the best response times for an IPS panel or a ASUS VG27AQ, which just came out recently, for its over all value with 155Hz 1440p. Around $400-$500
I really have no idea what 4k display I would want, maybe one of the ASUS swift IPS panels or Acer XB273K. Both of which cost $900+
Because the benefits of 4k aren't as obvious from a couch away, unlike 480p to 1080p. This is why you calculate viewing length.
Smartphones: Hopefully never
TVs: Already there
Laptops: When manufacturers stop being so jewish
Desktops: Once gamers stop being cheap or retarded buying $100 shit monitors or $2000 gaymur monitors(that are also shit) instead.
why would anyone want an even brighter display? I use mine at around 30% and it's good enough.
Get closer to the feeling of staring into the sun and the feeling of realism.
Think of a fullscreening a photo with high areas and detailed shadows on a display that only goes to 100nits.
And then think what it would look like on a 1000nit panel.
i want to nakadashi kuro
HDR, for realistic lighting.
unny
Who doesn't?
Eww
I know you're joking but I've been playing Battlefield V with HDR and I can seriously just enjoy the game for the visuals. And yes, I particularly like the sun, it's amazing how compelling it looks with HDR on a 4k TV with local dimming (Samsung Q80R)
Gaaaayyy
2 years
me too
Whenever they straight up just stop making 1080p displays.
chocolate is my favorite flavor
>Our eyes can't see more than 720P
Not true. Maybe the level of detail that humans can detect between, say, a 4K screen and a 720P one would be indistinguishable if there was enough distance between the human and the screen. However, explain to me why 720P monitors are so shitty compared to 1080P monitors. That's right: There's less detail on the 720P one and it drives most people like myself insane. Get glasses, user.
a long ass time as apartments get smaller people don't need yuge tv's
>Ultrawide, 16:10 and 720p/1440p will forever be unsupported mongrel resolutions
>Only 1080p and 4k will be relevant, at least until 8K becomes a thing.
Isn't it sad?
My local IPTV service hasn’t even moved on from 720p yet
Maybe another 20 years
Or less if we do get 100% full fibre
i don't even have a 1080p monitor. i use an old flatscreen as a monitor. only goes up to 768p. it works so i ain't complainin.
HTTP Live Streaming is still a thing
Gotta adapt to multiple devices and bandwidths somehow
thicc thighs draw my eyes
