Is it worth it fellas?

If not, what is?

worth it for what?

If you want a VPN, you want anonymity. Private Internet Access is one of the few truly /logless/ VPN providers out there. You can even exchange gift cards or crypto for access.

Pic related

yeah but what are you using it for?

Nice try, officer

If you're using it for privacy then you're retarded. The point of a VPN isn't privacy.

Isnt the point to protect your data so it doesnt get stolen

what is it then? lol

Mullvad VPN.

hi satan also seconded mullvad

no
basically just a glorified proxy. only good for circumventing regional restrictions or avoiding DMCAs

Connecting enterprise computers onto a single network. It's useless for a consumer. If you want privacy use Tor Browser and Tribler for torrents. And Tails if you have to.

But by default, it's servers log whether or not. If something goes down or there's an attack, engineers will look for those logs.

yes, but froot is better

Sneed

if you want *real* privacy, pay for a VPN through tor with crypto like monero, then connect to the VPN through tor. it's good for getting past anti-tor filters on websites

the only smart thing ever said in a VPN thread

>avoiding DMCAs
so, privacy

If you want your data to be more sold that it already is. Buy a subscription

except the traffic is all SSL tunneled, something proxies don't do, correct?

Not to mention it serves the same purpose as a TOR node in the effect that multiple users sending varying types of traffic obfuscates your signal and gives plausible deniability

>multiple users sending varying types of traffic obfuscates your signal and gives plausible deniability
You can't guarantee this, nor does this mean you're protected from tracking by software/websites.

Correct. Don't listen to the glorified proxy kids.
Read this for a better, full understanding

Also if you use the tor browser while connected to your VPN then even they can't see ANYTHING besides encrypted tor traffic. If you run a vpn with a network lock you can enable JS on the tor browser because the only IP an exploit would leak is the VPNs

>If you run a vpn with a network lock you can enable JS on the tor browser because the only IP an exploit would leak is the VPNs
It's not just about IPs. "Fingerprints" can be leaked as well.

True but a fingerprint can only do so much. A fingerprint has never solely led to the discovery of a user. If it has, please show me. If fingerprinting is a concern use something like whonix in a VM.

The last word in the acronym. The point of a VPN is to create a local network, virtually, that connects computers on different networks. "Private" is just a bonus when done in certain implementations. When you self host a VPN there's no privacy.

no shit you're not protected from website tracking, but that's not what's being argued here

also, you might not be able to guarantee a VPN has adequate traffic for obfuscation, but it is more likely than running openvpn on a VPS that you are the only user of

the key word is "self-host"

nobody is fucking asking about a self-hosted VPN, they're asking about NordVPN which is the most shilled VPN service as of late, or other paid VPN services

>The point of a VPN isn't privacy.
>VPN
>Virtual Private Network

>private means privacy
Are you retarded?
>A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network.
It's literally what hamachi is for gamers, connecting computers and emulating a LAN network. That's it's primary purpose. The shilling for "muh privacy" was made to steal money from gullible idiots. It's literally nothing more than a paid proxy and is useless for an average person. It's just for business use. Normies have Tor.

Nord is also located in Lithuania that have bad data retention laws. Not a good idea to use them for a VPN

OVPN, you are literally protected even during court

you use it?
Their site is impressive

It's "Private" in the sense that a private network is private. Your router at home creates a private network that all your machines are on and connect out to the outside world through. "Virtual Private Network" means that it is "Virtually" like that, but the network is some random host out online and not your router.

It has nothing to do with how private you are or aren't. It will just be like you're logging on from the VPN exit node rather than your PC.

He stated it poorly, but he does have a point. A VPN provides you with a very specific kind of privacy: it obscures who you are talking to to your ISP and it obscures who is talking to the host. But that's all it does: obscure who, not what. And what is VERY identifying, just ask Ted Kaczynski. It is not a one-size-fits-all privacy solution, it is merely an obfuscation layer to desync lines of communication.

What most people use VPNs is to simply hide their torrent traffic from the peer discovery in p2p networks and hit you with DMCA violations. But if you're trying to attain true privacy and anonymity then you have to BEHAVE in a truly anonymous way.

This.

OP always mind how you manage your browser cookies and eliminate trackers if you want privacy when browsing online. And be weary of the online services you use, and what they collect. A VPN will not simply prevent all of that.

so what the fuck vpn should I get. I don't want to be jewed
