I had stupid weird shower thoughts about Pagan gods, the portrayal of human with animal features by drawings and ritual clothing by our ancestors and similar other human like beings of myth and legends.
What if they were and will become real, are they actually our heavily with animals genetically modified future descendants who never left the planet Earth, which the masses did already a very long time ago, perhaps even they are the sole survivors of a distant post-apocalyptic world scenario? They could had machines or something else left over with experimental time shifting abilities to travel in an alternate, but similar past timeline of their own in an often ghostly state and not entirely crossed over. A vacation trip, experiencing the good old days, who knows? Somehow they ended up mostly in our primal to medival times, maybe they knew already that would be the best to be praised as God instead of being shot down in later times by the American military. Malevolent beings could be also explained in that way, even soon for us synthetic cannibalism could be a norm. For those "once-humans" it could have been an opportunity to taste the real deal from which almost all of their previous consumed meat is from indirectly.
Since they can't really relate to us anymore there isn't any regret besides having the knowledge that still an endless number other timelines exist, but of course some of them were nice and shared their knowledge with us. They influenced so our mental evolution and we could already life in a world several hundred years ahead on their own back then at the same centuary.
