Watch End of Evangelion if you haven't already, the rebuilds are a waste so don't bother. The best Eva clone is Rahxephon. Other shows you might like: Utena, Serial Experiments Lain, Key: The Metal Idol, Infinite Ryvius and of course the Gainax follow ups like Kare Kano and FLCL.

My favorite shows as of late were 91 days, Made in Abyss, Imouto sae Ireba Ii, Happy Sugar Life. My favorite shows of all time are Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou and Eureka Seven. Try Cromartie High School and Gurren Lagann. I think you'd like Gundam, try the original and if you can't stomach the Scooby Doo animation switch to Seed (this is a controversial rec). I also wanna recommend Angel Beats to you for some reason but that's not completely logical.
