I DID IT!!!!! :D
I DID IT!!!!! :D
Cool coding user, wanna bring it to the white house?
Install gentoo
>still can't take a screenshot
okay im kinda dum
i always see this on Jow Forums but i dont get it
what exactly is this?
operating system
madman
It is a Linux distribution that is pretty based. I have used Debian for years so I'mma just still with it. Hopefully, I gain the will power to just get it over with.
i know
I haven't even installed a web browser yet and I don't feel like sending a screenshot to my phone just to post it here
are you talking about neofetch or gentoo?
neofetch is a program that shows your OS information and its logo, gentoo is a gnu/linux distrobution that takes a while to install
I was actually using Debian before this but I messed it up while trying to compile graphics drivers to get a newer version than in the repositories so I just gave up and decided to install gentoo
it's not very difficult to install if you just follow through the manual on the wiki but it just takes a long time, especially if you read carefully through every step like I did
oh okay
i was talking about neofetch
i thought it was something more complicated than that for some reason
have fun taking hours to compile everything whenever you update your system
congrats on finally installing it, user!
you'll definitely be happy with it, and learn a lot!
cool
thanks i will
cool thanks i already learned a lot just from the installation process alone
now i just have to figure out how to get windows back in grub...
are you ashleyfig or ade i can't tell anymore
depends
ok
kot
Been using Gentoo for about 7 years now. It's good stuff. Portage is
good work, akariposter jimmy
What are the benefits of gentoo over windows?
You can easily distinguish Ade from his cute filenames.
nice
thank you
you get full control over your system so you don't have to use whatever microsoft tells you to and by compiling everything you know exactly what is in your system, giving you a better understanding of it how it works
also gentoo treats you like someone who actually knows how to use your computer whereas windows treats you like an old lady who doesn't know how to click an 'update' button by herself
oh ok i see.
Another advantage of Gentoo is that you control what options get compiled into the packages.
Example: simple awesomew desktop on Debian. You want to I stall evince since it's a nice PDF viewer, but the dependencies are lol huge since they compiled in gno.
Me keyring support. On Gentoo, you only include what features you need from evince, so if you don't need gnome keyring support, the dependencies are much much smaller. This is just one example but things can add up.
oh so if you change USE flags it changes the package's dependencies? i didn't know that, cool
Keep posting i need moar data
now switch to systemd profile and install gnome 3.32
no
I'm going to install dwm btw
Yes tell me moar i need all of your data
Yeah. Try
USE=something here" emerge -pv somepackage
Also, I forget the package it's in, but equery is
what does -pv do?
yes i've heard about equery but i didn't install it yet
cute luvdicks
what
looks like this
congrats but the real challenge is actually using it for an extended amount of time
god mode: its the only computer youre allowed to use
oh lol
yeah I'll probably be using it as my main OS for a while but I'm still keeping w*ndoes installed unfortunately for games
Cool. See you back on Arch in a couple of days. Gentoo is a waste of time for a distro with shit defaults.
Install Void
man emerge
Verbose and pretend
