Cats have one of the best hearing ranges in all frequencies, also the cat ears for a humanoid head are much bigger than of any normal animal cats. Cats tend not to hear sounds of the far distances like dogs or we humans do, because their ears are so little, but now with the increased size and placement on the top of the head this problem is fixed.
The human ears on each side are at this point only tumors which have to be removed, the extra sounds of poorer quality will just be annoying and distracting.

The only reason to maybe still have human ears around is that I can't think about how headphones will work out in this scenario, heck how would something like this even look like?
Still I assumed how ears will work out for actual cat girls which should have working cat parts on them, but animal ears could also be just grow at the top of the head and be somewhat moveable, but have nothing to even record sound, they are just there as an "accessoire".

I mean if we are capable to do genetically engineered cat girls they shouldn't have human ears to begin with anymore.
In many fiction works the set of animal ears are really just biological accessoires/cyberkinectics with no other purpose than looking cute or cunning.
Even in Touhou for example, most do forget that the world building is actually partially in the far future and many characters or even all use potential cyberkinectic augmentations and no one is really magical there at least after some fannon theories.
