Key word is ‘overly’. Neither Geographical adaptations of the language are in any way too far apart. However if you consider British English to be the ‘standard’ - the derivative of English (United States), then it is implied English (United States) is a partly simplified adaptation of the english language hence to some letters having redundancy (i.e. see OP’s post).
