food diary. it works as long as you do it. just write down what you eat and the calories, total up the calories a couple times a day and at the end of the day. weigh yourself once a week, always on the same day and around the same time.

it works. it's easy. you will find out how many calories/day to break even or to lose weight. if you stop doing it, it stops working.

I went from 215 to 170 (5 ft 11) and have stayed in shape for over two years.

I tried keto and a low calorie diets. Although I was losing a little bit of weight, it was too slow for me to feel good about it and I gave up due to the cravings.
Isn't measuring calories a lot of effort though? Especially with unclear things you mix together and cook...but the food dairy sounds useful.

i was really skinny most of my life so i cant exactly say, but until about over a year ago i started lifting and eating more and have gained about 25 pounds of muscle. I haven't exactly needed to keep a detailed log of calories, but its really simple. If you consume calories and you want to lose weight, work out and burn them off. it takes effort. if even documenting the calories is too much for you, then you probably wont consistantly work out

No, measuring calories is easy as fuck. Especially since google can spoonfeed you the cal content of every food item. In the beginning you got a lot of measuring to do but after a while estimating calorie content becomes a habit. You only need two rules.

1. Every day, calories in < calories out.
2. Never go hungry.

Work on balancing your diet until both rules are satisfied on a daily basis. Use google and/or packaging to figure out what's in your food. Problem solved easy as pie. Delicious delicious yummy pie
