What do you do? I've been practicing Fudoshin Aikido for the last 11 years. Not competing though.
The dojo is kind enough to not enforce us advanced students to join competition teams. They allow us to be there just for fitness and arts.

i do modern wushu. i used to train a lot of sanda (actual practical fighting, basically kickboxing with wrestling and judo takedowns) but nowadays i do mostly changquan which is about beauty and acrobatics (not for real fighting), kinda like aikido.

Man, Aikido is a proper stance oriented, balance based, hand-to-hand martial art fully aimed for toppling your opponent in a way where you will in the next moment have a full access to the vitals of your opponent, or, to fully restrict the movements of your opponent.

Aikido is absolutely not wrestling per se, however Aikido has similarities with classical wrestling in particular with leg movements in particular when starting the moves in a situation both of the opponents are standing.

Our Fudoshin club has regularly friendly meetups with other martial arts clubs. I myself have defeated an advanced Shotokan karateka with my Aikido skills. I felt proud. :DDD
