Really my grip was with pacing and just you have can have the same amount of exposition in an episode, but if you lump it all together in a scene its a lot worse than if you do a little bit of exposition (different scene, possibly to illustrate and reinforce the exposition) then do a little bit more exposition.
And also just a problem I have with anime in general that, lets just say it was a battle shonen

And just leave it at that.

but ultimately after the first two episodes of Made in Abyss I did go back and rewatch them, this time completely focused. And I didn't have as much of a problem with episode 2's long exposition scene.
well, that's not true, I still think it was just an issue of converting manga to anime and they didn't realize that the experience of reading all of that is much different than putting it to anime form, and for a sophomore episode it was still really risky for them to make 1/3rd of the episode exposition and backstory.
But, it wasn't as glaring as when I was arguing with whoever I was arguing with at the time and watching the episode out of the corner of my eye thinking "Are these niggers STILL dropping exposition?"

There is one scene in it that goes long with the exposition right before Homura turns into a witch though at it is the turning point of the movie.

Well like I said before, it would've been pretty difficult for them to properly divulge that information without ripping the band-aid off and placing the bulk of it within that extended exposition scene. I mean maybe they could've done something like have them walk and show various locales of the fair that was going on while continuing the exposition in order to at least visually break it up, but I think the flash back animations were enough to keep the viewer invested.
If we're thinking about the same scene, all I can really remember is thinking to myself while the battle was raging on something similar to you while watching that exposition scene.

I like that the movie does a surface level presentation of events that people misinterpret and you can tell if someone got the movie or not.
If they think Homura did something wrong, they didn't understand the movie.
If they think Homura did nothing wrong, then they totally understood what went on.
