I like how they give him that left hand so D can retain his silent stoic nature but still have someone say something from his perspective. I find that they do that often in grimdark anime/manga, give the badass a smart-alec or cute side character, often as a curse or a haunting spirit or in Berserk's case, a fairy.

Listen, I don't listen to gothic music. So when there's nothing genuine for me to think of, memes will naturally fill the void.
And all in all I thought it was a pretty good movie. I was hoping for the atmosphere to be a bit more dark since that was a really powerful opening shot, but in spite of that, it had some really great art direction going for it. Kinda reminded me of Jin-Roh at points.

Just feels disjointed. I know that Meier Link had the letter before in the carriage that was from Carmilla. I know the characters were "oh no! THAT castle! that's trouble!" for awhile. But Carmilla as a character and her betrayal of Meier and Charlotte, It just feels like something is missing there. I don't know, I'm not a big "art of the film" kind of person but the plot twist scene seems...like not as rock solid as it could be.

I'm actually kind of surprised that you haven't seen Kiki's Delivery Service yet considering it's one of Miyazaki's staples. And I should just let you know that Arrietty isn't directed by Miyazaki though it is written by him. Regardless of that fact I still found it to be a very Ghibli-esque movie that fits in well within their collection.
