It's still possible if you have a console at least. The last time we did something like that was while we were playing Bloodborne and passing the controller around after each death. In which I proceeded to get raped because it wasn't my console and I had never played it until that day.

I don't know if you ever played guitaroo man for the playstation, but the way that it does the directional thing, or if you played any of the naruto fighting games, the way you cast jutsus.
an input method that makes you actually feel like you are "casting" a spell and you have to be good at it or else the spell isn't as powerful as it could be/over use magic. with that kind of input method, you could have endless spells you can cast without EVER going into a menu and "setting" your spells to a button.
