Everyone I know from my ranked 50-80 undergrad, which is a national school but nothing crazy, who studied the stuff above is wildly more successful compared to any "trade".

Go look at how many jobs these days are about "data science" in which they all fit nice and neat with econ. Add in the hordes of finance jobs which those companies know econ majors can do and you'll see the strength of the degree. I'd gladly put it above finance in terms of employment strength, especially with data science exploding.

What the fuck, I know lots of doctors and you know one thing they all have in common? They're rich as fuck with starting pay around $200,000 a year not to mention the prestige of being a mother fucking doctor. You want to marry a wealthy, attractive, top of the line intelligent female? Being a doctor is sure as hell one of the best ways to do it.

No one actually does "economics" for their work (except those bs jobs with the government). Employers know people who graduated with econ degrees can do medium/high end statistics, understand data structures, can learn on their own and learn quickly, and are generally very intelligent. That's why any job with data or statistics in the name econ majors get put to the top. On top of that any tech job or other casual job employers know the dude applying with an econ major is generally gonna be smart AF. Pic related.

We are both right in a sense but have different assumptions about what the purpose of a career is.

Your way is make the most money with minimal effort whereas I think one should focus on doing something that contributes to society. There are many jobs that do this which are highly lucrative or, at minimum, provide a comfortable lifestyle. But face it, most people in the corporate machine fucking hate their job, even if it pays well. But so much for prestige.

People who get legit degrees don't end up "doing nothing", they work in the most innovative and society changing companies on the planet. A tech worker in Silicon Valley does more to contribute to society than any mechanic. A data scientist helping create AI does more to contribute to society than any plumber.

Again, i'm not trying to belittle hard working folks but this waving off of corporations which is what generates all innovation in our lives is insane.
