I have nothing against dumb or naive shows in general, my issue is that there are dumb shows that try to act like they aren't. Thats why i mostly watch animated movies, at least they aren't pretending to be some sort of heartbreaking dramatic philosophical bullshit, they are just cartoon for kids and they act like it.

hmm no I haven't

generally I use Rotten Tomatoes (top DVD releases and all DVD releases in general, so that it is available on torrents) and filter it so it shows only those that have 60%+ rating from the audience. Usually don't even open movies below that rating unless it got bad rating for some other reason like SJW or Jow Forums nonsense. Then I also use website called ondvdreleases which lets you see what movies are about to come on on which day approximately and those that already did come out on DVD, their genres, popularity (big budget and popular movies start at the top even if they have bad rating and lower budget are below) and smiley faces (green = good rating, angry = bad/mixed etc). Sometimes I just go to 2008 or any other random year and just look what was good in that time. In any year though there was like 80% of shit though, always been like that. VERY rarely using streaming services myself and if I do I never use their most popular sections or anything like that, it's always gonna be populated with crappy movies

I also tend to look more for foreign movies (there are good Swedish, Norwegian movies), they are 99% not in any lists like I mentioned and there are usually great hidden gems, of course if they have eng subtitles.

When I am looking for a movie to watch I usually spend like hour just picking the right one t bh

Yeah I know, but it does get rid of most of the crap. I usually find out about lower rating movies which are actually good one way or another. For example the latest Ice Age with space stuff had 39% from audience and just 16% from the critics but it was such a fun and nice movie for me, I absolutely enjoyed all of it.

hmm now that I think of it I dont think I've really seen any Swedish movies, I probably just mixed them up with Norwegian
but Girl with Dragon Tattoo trilogy was fantastic imo

Ironically Godfather trilogy is one of my favourite of all time, it was atmospheric for me the first time I watched it (saw it on TV at home when I was like 16 once, sat for 5 min to see what it is and got glued for the rest of the movie). It was funny because our 2 TVs were broken because of lightning storm and I was watching it on a tiny black and white TV that you can carry, like when you ho camping. Watching it without colour was interesting experience.

I liked Hateful Eight too, and like you said because of dialogue and character development.

I watched the American version too for first part, and then two other parts in original Swedish because Hollywood didn't make them. It was easy to catch up and get used to different main character but I should have watched the original first imo.

You have to pass a cinematographic knowledge test before you can comment in there, and as a result i keep getting surprised about how objective and good the ratings there are. I honestly deeply love the site and how widely accepted it is as the ultimate source of knowledge on movies, since it gives even plebians a good guidance on cinematography.
