There's a slight humorous element in mämmi itself. One one hand it's something unique to finland at least in this exact form so it's a nice topic so to say. It's considered something really ancient and everyone agrees the look of the dish is pretty "crappy" so it's both appreciated and made fun of by finns. Not everyone likes it, but it's still something that brings the nation together as every ethnic finn knows how it tastes. All those aspects of common culture, humour and reverence come together in mämmi. It's definitely not obvious even for a finn, but that's my take on it as an anthropologist.
