My reading of the backlash, and the overall hysteria over rape, is actually an under-rationalised internal reaction against the conditions which led to the undoubted degradation, and possible if not probable violation, of that young woman, and no doubt more women than pass through the courts in rape trials.

They couch their negative feelings towards the consequences of the triumphant sexual revolution in the ritualistic, media-facilitated reactions to events such as these. They conflate the negative feeling of being "used" with the feeling of being "violated", probably because psychologically the two are very similar.
Maybe if they could formulate the distinction, they would be able to articulate better a reaction against degenerate sexual behaviour without having to mischaracterise it as "rape culture", but it's also probable that they subconsciously want to avoid laying any blame for the bad outcomes of women's decisions within liberal sexual rules on either women or sexual rules, and have their cake while eating it.

It's more debate about those things in the media, it's more a topic among people, and basically it has become what people are concerned about nowadays.
