We generally like the USA despite Polish jokes, Yalta betrayal, treating Polish Americans as citizens of second category in previous decades out of WASP-racism, and bullying us with using Jews and their illegal property restitution demands. Respect for free speech, democracy, collective defense, you know the usual. I don't deny that America did some shit, especially in South America in the past, but more than not they do uphold ideals even if you disagree about the methods. America is a country with faults, but then again all countries have faults and people tend to give more shit to America just because they are in the position they are in. Being the world superpower does give you a lot of hate, no matter how well you do the job or not.

If America doesn't act in a conflict they get shit, if they act they get shit, someone is always going to disagree.

It uses international rights as an excuse to interfere with other countries' sovereignty, but regularly breaks them for its own benefit knowing it can get away with it (war crimes, protectionism, human rights violations, etc.). Just think of how it dealt with things like the war on terror, the subprime crisis, and global warming. While the United States certainly suffers from its mistakes, other countries do so more. The United States doesn't have to deal with the fallout of the destabilization of the Middle East like Europe, the United States was among the least affected by the subprime crisis, and third world countries are projected to be hurt most by global warming. The United States isn't changing its strategy in the Middle East and threatens to destabilize it further, the United States opted not to regulate their financial industry even though that's what sent the world economy into a tailspin, and the United States either does little to mitigate global warming or outright pretends it doesn't exist.

Most people say they hate US government, but love the people. I have the opposite opinion. US political domination over the world is the lesser evil, in my opinion. The world dominated by China, Russia or Germany would look like a total nightmare. Sure, sometimes fuckups happen, such as the invasion of Iraq, but for the most part American role in the world history has been more positive than that of others. The US's role was instrumental in bringing down Kaiser Germany in WW1, Nazi Germany in WW2 and Soviet Union in the Cold war.

As for the people, here when the problems begin. Most American people are extremely shallow, superficial, judgemental, narcissistic, arrogant and bossy, pathologically obsessed with money, appearance, height and other superficial things, are incapable of introspection and imagination. They are, as Markuse described, "one-dimensional" people who live only to consume and play roles, totally empty inside. This is a common problem for Germanic protestant societies, where the so called petit bourgeois mentality strongly dominates the society and subjugates and terrorizes anyone who does not "fit in" their narrow-minded, unimaginative and overly materialistic vision of the world.
