How long until miners start dumping their GPUs for cheap?
Looking to pick up something like R9 290 for a reasonable price.

Are you saying you can't get that old piece of shit cheaply? I got them for 140 eur each last summer
You realize that GPUs used for Bitcoin mining will be basically destroyed right? If a GPU was used for mining for any considerable length of time then the lifespan of the device is essentially over.
Well right now they cost about the same which is about twice higher than their market price would be if not for mining.
within this year the crypto fad will be over. bubble burst last december
i will get a 980ti or 1080ti
You can get current gpu's at msrp around June/July when Eth asics are released and new Nvidia cards are out...
Only if you're a retarded and hold the temp above 70 degrees.
If you keep it under, literally nothing happens to them. The 290x-s I bought still work flawlessly.
trips confirm. I got an r9 290x running since 2013 that has never went above 66 celcius, it's payed itself off 200x now
Yea running GPUs non stop on 100% 24/7 for 2-3 years is DEFINITELY not going to affect life span.
yea man i too like to run sims 3 on my computer 24/7 without ever logging off
>virgin gamer
>power cycles 5000x
>overclocks at max
>sells graphics cards with artifacting
>ran their cards at 90 celcius all the time
>chad miner
>keeps GPUs at stable clock settings
>keeps them cool
>power cycles them once a month only to dust them unlike filthy gamers who never dust
>never go above mid 60 celcius
PROTIP: Most bitcoin miners are normies who rode the hype and thus keep their dozens of GPUs running in some closet somewhere, ensuring that temps are always high and heat deformation is inevitable. Don't give those dumbasses an out by buying their stockpiles of now molten GPUs. Let them hold their bags as penance for driving up the prices of GPUs.
Cards are designed to work at specific temperatures, not stay idle with some peaks. Everytime there has been a case that some card doesn't function anymore after mining it's either:
Defective card to begin with
Held constantly over 70 or even 80 degrees
Low quality power supply which breaks it
And how much life span you want from a card, 5 years is not enough? Personally I buy the top edge Nvidia card every generation because GPU is no longer a toy, it's an investment. I have my money back from buying 1080ti 2x now. So I actually make money with it and can game like crazy.
Why the fuck do these threads keep coming up? How many times do you have to be told that when prices drop larger mining entities buy the cards of smaller operations that are exiting?
The fact that blockchains exist means that someone is mining them. That means it's profitable to someone. And means their operations are constantly expanding.
You're never seeing retail priced GPUs again. Sorry to burst your bubble.
why is wojak in bed with that seedy motherfucker?
Why, I don't get it. What makes running a miner on a GPU so much more stessful for the card than a video game that pushes the card to its limit just the same.
>imagine being so poor you can't afford a GPU
>the absolute state of /v/
bru we going 50 dollars you realize that right? And is that your gf?
Nothing, but most miners overclock them and stuff like that, so that lowers the lifespan.
Any miner with a lick of common sense will underclock their GPUs to reduce the temperature and power consumption. But you can't tell who has and who hasn't, so it's basically a gamble.
>Tfw not a poorfag and have two Titan xps in custom ekwb loop since before crypto boom. No idea what peasant gpu models these fgts are talking about
how bout something from this century
they run 24/7, no gamer has that runtime
Nobody mines Bitcoin or SHA-256 based crypto for that matter with GPUs, you fucking mongrel.
I'm not underclocking it and it hovers around 62 C. Will that harm my 1050 Ti?
It will happen when the entire crypto space realizes POS algo is better. Right now only about 25% of the space sees that it is better, the rest are miners pushing propaganda that it is a nothing burger so they can keep their mining fees and brainlets who believe them.
Wow the life span is now 20 years instead of 25. Temp under 70 and kept consistent means no difference on the time scale most people use cards for. Plenty of ancient cards still work, almost no one pushes them to the actual life span if the hardware.
>bitcoin
>gpu
You have no idea what you are talking about.
does user realise how long it takes to meet ROI on a 1080 mining ETH now?
even if electricity was next to free, it would take years. there's probably only a 50% chance of the card lasting that long without burning out. we're talking $5 dollars a week.
what kind of business would bother operating like that?
>Buying an ex-mining GPU
Might as well buy pre-used condoms
Good start up idea.
The pozzing community (admittedly a depreciating asset) might enjoy that.
lol guys i mined my GTX 970 for an entire summer with it at 180 F and my benchmarks haven't suffered at all...this was 2 years ago.
i'm going to turn on my computer and it will just break one day, huh?
>You're never seeing retail priced GPUs again. Sorry to burst your bubble.
you understand that there is simply a lag between nvidia/amd production and the markets demand? we will absolutely see retail prices within 2-5 years _at most_
>he doesn't understand supply and demand at this age
So, you're on the used GPU market. How do you tell it wasn't used for mining?
>this fad will be over within this year
>after the fad dies, I will buy into the fad
gg user.
delision
delusion*
>pls buy my burnt gpu
Buying an ex-mining GPU is like marrying an ex-hooker. That thing will be so fucking busted from 24/7 operation.
Are you John McAfee? No? Buy new then, retard.
This bitch retarded or just unlucky?
