So me and my friend want to take a trip to scandinavia this summer. Still torn between Sweden and Norway. Which one is better for tourists?

What will you be doing? Norway is good if you like coastal fishing, and Sweden has a lot of vast forests to camp in and lakes for canoeing. There's a lot to do in both but it depends on what you're looking for.

Sweden is beautiful during the summer.
Green fields and warm weather makes you feel like you're in heaven.

Looking to explore old nordic history mostly, but also the urban lifestyle.

Also interested to see the nightlife there.

why would you ruin your summer going there? go to the beach, gayass

Should probably go from Copenhagen to Stockholm then (Or the other way).

stockholm would be great for that

Norway has some nice museums with ancient norse artifacts and boats. I think Sweden has more heritage sites though, and some cool medieval buildings like the old Hanseatic town of Visby on Gotland.

I've been going to the beach every summer since I was born you filthy frog speaker

I heard Norway has many old norse museums and preserved artifacts and more expressed culture overall. I fear Sweden might be too cucked in that matter but the scales tip for the svens overall.

Copenhagen or Stockholm

Why Copenhagen tho?

Not being a dick, but they usually offer better advice.

I'd guess Denmark has the best nightlife in Scandinavia.

Depends on what you want to do.
Sweden is more like mainland Europe nature wise, Norway is beautiful if you intend to hike in the mountains, or go by boat.
Sweden is more forests and fields, Norway is more Mountains and Fjords.
Both beautiful in their own way

Danoids are animals it's like a giant zoo

I assume you want to learn about vikings? That's what most people mean when they say norse.
Norwegian and swedish vikings are very different when it comes to history, just so you know

I imagine the Norwegians were the vikings in the classical sense of the word? The swedes were more like mercenaries.

Norway is fucking expensive

>be me
>home from vacation in southern europe
>plane has to stop at gardermoen first
>go to buy some water
>51 norwegian crowns for 0.5L of water

Pre-Viking age, Vendel Period in the Iron age

>when you need to take along a reuseable bottle of water
>so it doesn't dent your long term beer budget
Norwege is suffering, a little. But the lamb is delicious

Living near Finnish/Swedish border would be great I bet. God tier salaries and cheaper prices otherside of the border. I hear some people come as far as Tromso to buy stuff

memes aside, sweden got a lot of neat stuff like runestones which there are few of here. norway is also ridiculously expensive in comparison and i dont imagine our nightlife to be any better

don't know alot about swedish vikings. I think that's the case tho

There is a reason the area around the capital has buss companies running tourists routes that only cross the border to reach Ullared, a gigantic shopping mall.
Sure, the difference is only 30-70%, sometimes less, but the bonus is that beyond being cheaper its also different in selection.
From bigger varity of spiced butter, to dill potato chips, different alcohol, etc.
The difference is true even if you migrate from middle of nowhere to a summer ghost town.

I'll keep that in mind.Is Norway as expensive for norwegians too?

Restaurant is very expensive.
Alcohol at a restaurant is super expensive.
Supermarked ingedients is normally priced, where a few tariff goods are slightly more expensive than on the other side of the border. Milk is reasonably priced for being completely tariff protected.
Prepacked/mixed stuff is slightly more expensive.

Norway is expensive for Norwegians, IF we order alcohol while travelling or eat at restaurants. Raw food itself is reasonable priced.

Swedish vikings were more akin to traders, colonisers and indeed mercenaries.
Here is a map of Varangian runestones.

Norway.
Fjord are awesome.

use the train and do both if you can, it's not hard. sweden is probably more tourist friendly in terms of public transport etc. but the scenery in norway is incredible

He didn't want to visit the nature though.

Regular food in Norway is really cheap if we consider wages, at least compared to other countries. But going out to eat in restaurants is expensive unless you go to McDonalds or something, and even then, to me McDonald's also feels expensive unless you buy the cheapest menus.

Denmark

You seem to be vastly rich. If you drop by to Sliven I can show you how Malmo looks and feels like.

Please don't rape him

Sweden and Denmark probably have way better urban life, but Sweden is now turning historical artifacts into scrap metal in the name of diversity.

If you go to Norway you don't come to eat our food, which is very bland by european standards, you come to see the nature. I would recommened north norway during summer, it's going to be an experience you've never had before. Avoid the big cities, rather try to airbnb some place around Lofoten, rent a small boat from a local or join him fishing. You will get 15+ large ones in an hour. It's best to go out at 2330, because then the water is still like a mirror, and it is night as well, so it is very quiet, just that it is sunny during midnight.

Har dere noen båter'a??

People say the museum is bad with little to look at, and the reconstruction is really questionable. That boat design can't be used on the sea, they just assumed the boats needed to be symmetrical even though symmetrical boats don't work and they had no basis to make that assumption in the first place.

Never seen the reconstructed ship. Seems like they got some preserved ships though. Those might worth a look.

Never seen it myself either, and have no idea about the quality of the museum. It may actually be really good for all I know.

If you come to Oslo, I really recommend walking along the Akerselva. It's a really nice place to walk, you can see nice trees, people living happy summer days, old industrial architecture and some nice waterfalls, and there are restaurants and other things to do too.

Nature looks stunning. Doesnt matter if I go to Sweden or Norway i'll come back to visit the other either way. Only experience I have with a scandinavian country so far is Iceland. I've said to myself that one of these places would be my retirement home one day. Or maybe earlier. Nothing like blasting some good metal when you wake up while looking at the fjords.

I have a cousin from Sliven, so I know all there is to know about our little balkan Malmo.Call me crazy but I think the gypsies in Sliven are more peaceful / respecting than the diaspora they have in Malmo
