Got a message on my BurnGuard app with a picture of CZ saying "Funds are safe". Apparently my wallet was picked for burning. Luckily i just got the new Ledger Nano S+ with BurnGuard so they had to pick someone elses wallet i guess.

I believe it can tell the burn transaction is about to happen so it just shove the coins into a 2nd address with a higher tx fee to sort or shove the moving transaction before the burn transaction preventing the burn. Hopefully they dont patch this somehow.

it moves your REQ into a smart contract with a deliberate broken owner only withdraw function so the burn transaction fails with an error, but owner can withdraw money through an integer overflow attack similar to the POWH exploit.

Just updated my firmware to 1.7, now you can see the BurnGuard status without plugging in the device.
You probably have the old model without BurnGuard? No point to lock in a good price if your tokens are burned anyways.

I do believe the burnguard is exclusive to the S+ model only so far. Maybe someone will hack the firmware to work with the normal model S? They seem pretty similar to me other than the firmware.

Locking is a TREZOR thing, Ledger doesn’t have it. I imagine they’re positioning BurnGuard as a competing service, but since it’s only really for REQ I doubt it’ll get many people to switch

The old models can run burnguard as long as you update the firmware first... the only problem is you'll have transfer all your coins from a pre burnguard ledger seed to post burnguard ledger seed BEFORE you install the burnguard app or you risk losing everything

It does it fairly. It’s not like it just selects one person at random and fucks their day, it spreads things out so statistically you’re liable to have a couple coins burned at some point. People trying to cheat it aren’t really going to benefit much if they do escape it.
