it's pretty useful. the girl speaks in japanese and the guy speaks in english, so you can practice your japanese comprehension while still knowing what's going on.

オーバーロード (LN, not manga)
The first volume really kicked my ass but I'm finding the second one much easier by comparison (so far...). Strange since I didn't really read much in between finishing the first one and starting this one. My goal is to finish the 9th volume by the time the anime adaptation of season 3 starts airing in July.
It will be hard, but on the other hand it's all stuff from the same author set in the same universe. Vocabs and certain phrases etc. should start repeating more and more
Easton Ross
What does 足すの確定 mean? Can it be something like "surely it's an increase"? The context is that someone's workload will be reduced if they take on another task.
Easton Moore
You're asking this without much context while providing an expression that yields zero results in Google. Consequently, the answer could be "Yes", "No", or "Maybe."

I'm lazy today.

Manga ebooks. Let me know if you want something uploaded (no, I can't upload everything to MEGA). I can also rip anything from Kindle Unlimited. On a semi-related note, if anyone's a TRPG fan, I bought a 2001 game called Terra the Gunslinger that I'll scan and post in /tg/ sometime next week (or whenever the other book gets here).
>Figure out I can change Netlix language to Japanese >Wow, maybe this will dub everything and add Japanese subtitles! >anime and Japanese films get subs >okay >Most English movies have no subs but for some reason you can watch a docu, dubbed and subbed in to Japanese but you can't watch ww2 in colour in anything but Eng >Test out Big Mouth subbed and dubbed and the subs don't even match the dub, this was the same for the docu
What are they doing at Netflix with my $10.99? Why are there not even Japanese subs for Japanese movies and series anyway? I was pumped to re watch some stuff dubbed and subbed. Who knew my days highest point would also be my lowest

True, I have that on my side at least.
In other news, I dropped Anki a while back and want to restart it, but I'm having a hard time deciding between vocab cards and sentence cards. I was doing vocab cards before but I was wasting inordinate amount of time trying to trim down the amount of definitions on any given card while still retaining a comprehensive enough definition for the word. I think sentence cards might remedy that since, as the goal is to understand a sentence rather than recite a definition, I can just dump the entire dictionary entry on the back of the card without having to worry about it being too long to remember.
Mason Williams
You just need to cure your autism. I dump the entire dictionary entry on the back and memorize the first only or a vague sense. Nuance is built through reading.
Thomas Williams
I feel like I have to have a precise answer on all of the cards so that I can clearly judge whether I got them correct or not.
Alexander White
矯角殺牛 Be precise with the reading, loose with the definition.

if only there were some kind of internet where you could download things.

I know lots of people probably do it already but is it worth it financially to do translating as passive income? Not to be rich or profit off of my studying but just as a small income. There's lots of stuff that could be translated in my opinion but isn't, especially English to Japanese.
Daniel Cook
Good luck and if we go down during my imminent ponder please remember that you can do it.
Nolan Brooks
Hello there. I've seem to have fucked up my Core6k Deck. I made some modifications to a separate deck file and then merged them together. Now the cards are no longer shown in the Opt Vocabulary Index even though it's set to show in order added. How can I rearrange them again?
If I'm correctly understanding what you want to do... "browse" > select deck > "fields..." > select field you want to order new cards by > "sort by this field in the browser" > "close" > click the "sort field" column > click any card > ctrl+a > "edit" > "reposition..." > "ok"
Nathaniel Reyes
Thanks a lot user. Anki really is full of small tricks. I've almost never use the Edit menu for example.

>Manga ebooks. How do the ebook versions differ from regular scans? Do they have selectable text or anything, or do they just have higher image quality than scans?

off to my stupid side job now
don't you die on me in the meantime
Leo Ross
Remember months ago when people tried to shift to the discord because /djt/ was dying. It feels at least 3x worse now in terms of thread activity. I don't come often but often it's not here at all.
Ethan Fisher
The Discord was a way to prevent DJTers from scattering when no thread was up, since they couldn't keep alive anymore.
It helped for a good while, but now we're back to hard times here on Jow Forums. And /jp/ is also getting fractured, I wonder how that'll go.
>And /jp/ is also getting fractured It was bound to happen sooner or later. Those threads inherited the bulk of the autism from /a/ and have been plagued with infighting and squabbles from the beginning. It's rare that a thread went by without some huge shitstorm kicking off.
>I wonder how that'll go. I guess it depends on how sick of cleaning up the mess the mods get. That OJT autist may well end up getting Japanese threads banned from /jp/ altogether if he keeps this up. Since the majority of posters there have rejected his attempt to rename the threads, and for whatever reason he won't give up trying to rename them, the conflict seems set to continue until such a time as the mods take a firm position on the issue (either by banning one thread or banning both).
Charles Williams
The definition of addition, probably.
Liam Nelson
Holy shit, it's worse than I thought. Australianon knows no limits...
It's really a shame. He's a well-meaning person and has contributed lots to the learning community, but lacks the emotional fiber to survive anonymous banter.
I tried to show him the way several times throughout my ~30 months of DJT, but he is so obsessed with his enemies, he fails (or chooses not) to see any allies. And that only contributes to this infinite cycle of aggravating blood pressure.
They just banned me from /jp/ and the OJT spammer. No idea why they banned me but I'm sure the OJT guy is just going to ban evade and pretend to be other people defending himself in DJT.
I'm the thread in the bottom left. Please remove me from this image, I'm unassociated.
- At 15 I began watching anime with Japanese audio (and Portuguese subs), but I already memorized full songs using romaji back then; - At 17 I learned all the kana, and knew a bunch of weeb words like itadakimasu;
After that, nothing much happened, except I would try to learn a few grade-1 kanji every 6~12 months, maybe even more.
- At 24 I found out DJT was a thing; - At 26 I'm glad to see my improvement! - At 28 I expect to be proficient; - At 30 I expect to be fluent; - At 40 I expect to have become Japanese; - At 100 I hope to be alive.
How do I do those magic tricks where I can attach tentens and whatnot to non-standard kana?
Kayden Walker
add the combining dakuten and handakuten codepoints to your IME's conversion tables
Nathan Cooper
プリーズ explain like I'm 5.
Are combining dakuten different unicode characters than ゛ and ゜?
Luis Turner
yes google them and copy paste them into your IME's table editor for だくてん and はんだくてん or something
Justin Evans

Draw a parallel with your English learning experience. I feel like I'm past the halfway mark to proficiency due to that, and it's reassuring.

Have you never seen an ebook before? It's just a scan of the manga that has a filter run over it by the publisher to level it and then they downscale it and sell it. They usually look like shit.
Alexander Collins
I've only seen novel ebooks up to now.
>It's just a scan of the manga that has a filter run over it by the publisher to level it and then they downscale it and sell it. They usually look like shit. What's the point of that? Why don't they use the original digitised copy which they use for printing?
Could you post a screencap of a page from one which you think is representative of the average quality?
Alexander Bennett
Because publishers are retarded and Japanese readers don't care about ebook quality. Even manga that were digital in the first place get butchered. It varies wildly, but it's usually 1200-1600px, with 2048px becoming more commong.
the half point between your l1 and english is much closer to proficiency than the half point of your l1 and japanese. At least for europeans this holds true.

>~2k/6k >Almost done with first readthrough of Tae Kim
I need to buy a physical copy so I can have grammar points earmarked and easily flip to them while trying to read... It feels like every step in this language is a mile long.
Jaxson Jenkins
Thanks. I wouldn't say that it looks like shit (I've seen much worse), but the resolution is a bit disappointing.
Could I trouble you for けものフレンズ アンソロジーコミック ジャパリカフェ編 and Claymore?

You could just download the PDF version of the site and CTRL+F it, or use the search feature on the site. It's most likely a lot quicker than flipping through a physical book and you can instantly look up words with Yomichan.
