Yes it's a very well known fact that there was some high culture for the natives before the Ottoman occupation, and that at the center of this were the Greeks, which is why even now when they are piss poor they are the most normal people in that shithole because Greece was too culturally rich and historically developed to drop to complete shit like the countries bordering it.
