Holding onto old values just for the sake of them being ancestral/old is not necessary. Evolving into new cultures that improve quality of life for people is a much better idea. It's arguable however, that certain cultures don't deserve to die out because they're fine and can fit in the modern century, but not all cultures can. We can't stay stuck in the same way of thought forever, if we ever need to advance.

We're operating on a vague definition of culture here. I agree that aesthetics must change over time, which they do naturally. Musical, architectural styles etc move with the advancement of technology, art is a projection of a people's soul mixed with the moores of the day etc.

"Values" are upstream of the outward manifestation (aesthetics) of the society however. And society's values must be based on human nature, which for all intents and purposes, is eternal. If we are to keep society stable and ensure the continuation of our kind, our moores must conform to reality and not the other way around.
The west is in a paradigm of complete moral inversion right now. Everything that is civilization-building, eugenic, strong and order-creating is frowned upon and vice versa. One example is the need to demand chastity of women. Another is clanishness - nationalism if you will.

A society needs to demand certain things of its members to stay functional so yes, ideally everyone "devotes themselves" to atleast the bear necessities that makes their nation run. We take it for granted that things are peaceful and functional these days. We will miss it when it's gone.
