Well, Canada would cease to be a commonwealth nation. We don't do that monarchy shit in the New World. As for the geopolitics, new lands would default to territory status with puppet rulers and new constitutions. Each region would have to apply for statehood by demonstrating some economic benefit to the union. From PR's situation you can see how difficult this would be.
I'd imagine Mexico will rapidly modernize after becoming the new China for US manufactured goods.
