Depends on the area. Devout members of some religions (e.g. Evangelicals and some Baptists) range from quiet disapproval to literally kicking out gay children or sending them to barbaric "treatment" centers. Most people aren't like that though. People generally don't go crazy and it's not something that many people openly discuss.

all memes aside, i've only known single guy who was found being gay and after it went public, his life was pretty much ruined. he deleted all his friends on social media, steam, discord etc. because people started bullying and persecuting him. also his father wasn't very happy about that either.
