If I'm green on a position on BitMEX, does it have any disadvantage to just increase the leverage to the max and use the freed up margin for other trades?
Assuming that I have stop losses in place and the position is already far away from its entry point.
Increasing leverage on a green position
every bit of your margin you put into a trade is more risk. you have more margin but not less risk.
I've heard the mex will ignore your stops in heavy traffic
But by increasing the leverage the own margin is decreased, isn't it?
Hm, don't know about that. Even market stops?
You free up margin but the liq price moves closer, so the risk of losing the remaining margin is higher
Not true for market stops
Ask Krown. He's about to be livetrading on BitMex and knows everything. youtube.com
I started trading on BitMEX last week, and despite its reputation for liquidating people, I feel trading BTC futures with leverage on BitMEX is a lot safer than trading normally without leverage.
1. You don't have to commit too much of your stack to make big gains.
2. Due to the big gains you can make with leverage, you don't feel so bad about leaving a position early, because you made way more than you would have without leverage anyway.
3. Because you can also short, if you miss the ride up, you can profit off the way down.
If you're a disciplined trader, who has a good strategy, gets good position entries, and uses stop losses, it's a great place to trade. The only people who get rekt are the reckless traders. Getting liquidated is 100% preventable, and I'm shocked so many people do end up on twitter.com
>profit off the way down
profit *on* the way down
That's retarded. Higher leverage directly translates into higher risk. So yes, you trade smaller chunks but you're also a lot more likely to lose them because of said higher risk.
It's all probability math, no magic.
increasing the leverage also increases risk due to the probability of hitting liquidation increase. it just increases risk much quicker than merely putting in more margin.
>despite its reputation for liquidating people, I feel trading BTC futures with leverage on BitMEX is a lot safer than
lol edvertizing bells ringing all over with this one.
I hope you get liquidated in RL for shilling these thieving cunts you worthless piece of shit
I feel like if you get consistently good entries into your positions, you're golden though. If you are a good technical trader, you will be rewarded generously. If you're not, practice elsewhere until you feel very confident in your TA.
Liquidation is 100% preventable. Just use a stop loss before your liquidation price. These guys who are getting liquidated must not be using stop losses which is insane to me.
>I feel like if you get consistently good cards at poker, you're golden though.
In poker you can keep folding until you get a hand worth playing.
In trading, you can wait until you find a great setup for your entry.
You have more control than you're trying to imply.
>unironically shilling gambling
we're done here.

Or just stick with you hodl on Bittrex
That time of the month huh?
>hodl
I feel bad for people who HODL during a bear market.
If you're not a trader, cash out until the bull returns.
If you are a trader, trade the dead cat bounces all the way down.
OP here, to clarify my question:
My position is green, let's say its 100% in profit already, and I have stops in place that won't let it go negative at all, so loss or even liquidation is completely out of the question.
Let's assume I used 10x leverage on this postition, and increase that to 20x. The number of contracts stays the same, and I get half of my margin back. Sure, the liquidation price tightens up, but as I said that is not a problem here.
I can't find any other disadvantage here?
Only limit orders
yes, you can do that.
Can anyone pls tell me about withdrawal fees on bitmex? what happens if I change itto the minimum required? how long will it take to post on my personal wallet.
Is it cheaper than Bittrex in the long run when it comes to fees?
why would you care about $10 withdrawal fees if you are making $500 a pop?
literally how markets work.. no exchange guarantees a limit stop loss because that's literally not how they work
a limit trade only executes if it can find a buyer or seller at that price *or better*
market trades find a taker for the best possible trade once a certain price has been passed
ALWAYS use market trades for stop losses
