They were important in forming the Congress party, which was supremely important in fighting for independence. Nehru and Gandhi were both affiliated, and Nehru was the PM for the congress party for like 20 years. Plus, Naoroji helped our ties with Britain.

In any case, the INC may have helped us become independent, but we are poor because of their socialist policies.
