And in 1979 we recognized that all legal sovereignty for China transfered to the PRC.

Taiwain too, but have been unable to do anything due to a Taiwan-US treaty. Vietnam has also long been a thorn in Chinas side they've been wanting to conquer. Being a
primary land power through most their history, China's been too busy consolidating their own borders, it's getting to the point for them to look outwards as shown by mass infrastructure and military projects overseas and this whole South China seas debacle. It's only a matter of time until they start doing the exact same things the US did since WW2 only probably a lot more sloppy and a lot more deaths.

Politically, there no point in saying Tibet is independent. It's too far away from Europe/the US and too close to China to challenge, which is why the only country who challenges Chinas claims to Tibet is India, who are the only ones in a position to contest and hold the region. The whole reason China took Tibet was because 2 of Chinas largest rivers source from there, it's a matter of "If we dont control it, India might". And coupled with the fact that over the last few years, the US have taken first place as Indias largest military supplier, the US is basically soft backing the side that wants tibetan independence without any political backlash from China.

It's kind of like Taiwan. We're officially forced to accept it as part of China for diplomatic reasons but everyone and their mother knows it's bullshit since the PRC has never controlled the place, thus their claims over Taiwan are laughable.

I think it would objectively (at least among world leaders) be the British who ended slavery and diabanded their empire willingly. They also prepared their colonies for independence. Not that they were perfect but the British created the most liberal (in a classical sense) societies of the world like Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, US, Australia etc. Also just compare their former colonies to the French ones. Jordan and Israel (poor Palestinians but the British couldn't always be right) are the two most stable countries in the region too.
