There are also lots of cases of the Romans have humiliating disasters with barbarians like at Teutoburg and Adrianople.
Nothing unique at all about smaller conflicts that large empires didn't really care for.
Cuba was just a supported coup that failed solely due to the dissident Cuban's fault. And America killed so many Vietnamese that they "lost" by having to leave due to unpopular public opinion.

Most Americans know it was a failure but anyone with any knowledge of the war should be aware that it was not a traditional military defeat so much as a diplomatic failure. The same exact thing happened to the Soviets in Afghanistan.

The French and yes, also the Australians failed in Vietnam too. We could have won Vietnam, but there was a lack of popular support at home which resulted in a lot of mistakes being made. It was the first widely televised war and people at home were seeing the reality of war for the first time. They were shocked and wanted it to end.
