Job post, can't help but mention crypto.

Your dad's gonna be sad when he finds out you squandered all that money

Greatest feeling ever isn’t it
Don’t even have to make it

>just finished hacking up my own genitals

kek

Welding is actually a decent career as it's a skill that's in demand globally.

Attached: 1420592725075.jpg (531x622, 54K)

I would do it

How long does welding school cost and how long does it take?
One could unironically live in some shitbox for 4 or so for like $12,000 a year and get a million dollars in half a decade
Ten years and you're set for life, you can even keep on working if you WANT to
Why is not everyone doing this
There must be a catch

You got a lifetime guaranteed job however

Is welding school an actual thing?
I learned it on the job training and took max 2 weeks to know everything. It's easy as fuck.

Man, i'm an Aerospace welder and I only made $46K last year working 50+hrs a week at $16 an hr.

I weld $1,000,000 parts daily on some of the hardest Super alloys available
But some neanderthal with a stick wedler makes like $10 more an hour than I do.

>just 300k starting salary school
>any job I want
>300k starting

Is underwater welding a meme or can you actually earn big bucks doing it?

I heard that due to the stresses it puts on your body you can only do it for a few years (roughly 5 years)

You did small easy shit i guess. I also learned it kinda on the side and never did again for 2 months.
But it was small stuff. Super fun though.

My buddies went through a 2yr weld collage and I think they spent a little over $12K after supplies ex.
But most places hire only entry level people right now. So if you can just kinda, weld; you can get a job. It won't pay much though.

>max 2 weeks to know everything.
Nigga, your knowledge is incredibly limited. That means you basically are at the peak of the Dunning Kruger effect.

Don't do it
It fucks you up
I know a guy who did off shore oil rig welding.
Dude was basically secluded for 6 months at a time destroying his body for $70 an hour.

>70$ an hour

Count me fucking in lad

Nigga, your body is worth more than $70. An hr.
That same guy stayed under too long and had to spend 36 hours in a hyperbolic chamber.
Plus you can only weld for a few hours a day.

You added one too many zeros user

Better this than drugs

If most likely received a fat bonus eoy, making that 140$/hr

Fumes and smoke will destroy your lungs, nose, central nervous system. Welding is ok short term but if it's your career you should just take up smoking and get it over with.

then get a new job shithead

Attached: 1522304754833.png (1348x1600, 804K)

>then get a new job shithead
It's fucking hard dude.
Aerospace pays like shit these days.
Wages are stuck in the 2008 crash.
But that's my only skill set, and I'm really fucking good at it.
I make everything glowing in the pic.

Thread theme: youtube.com/watch?v=xLla5w2yZeA

Sounds like you've got the old game dev problem. Programming pays great except for gaming, where everyone loves the thing they make, people pile in, and wages go to shit.

So you probably have to choose between comfy welding of cool glowing shit or boring, difficult welding in Alaska or wherever that pays well.

You don't actually make that much, genius.

People are piling in because aerospace will literally hire anyone these days because the skill pool is almost gone.
I had to train a 40yr old women who worked as a barista her whole life how to assemble $200,000 parts.
This industry is fucked now that the boomers are gone.

>junior level coder
>200k/year starting
>literally stroll into work at 10 every day
>type a few lines of code then boom lunch time
>nice catered lunch every day from this deli down the street
>go back to work after lunch and type a few more lines of bullshit code while browsing Chan and doing online shopping.
>leave work at 530 every day.
>Everyone thinks I'm a computer genius when I lied about most of the shit on my resume. Literally just bought a big stack of coding books and just speed read through them on adderal
>feels good man

Attached: 1476552717724.jpg (680x765, 44K)

You'll probably get a kick out of this then.

>“Almost everywhere I go, businesses tell me they can’t find workers. I always ask them the same question: 'Are you raising wages?' Usually, the answer is ‘no.’ When you want more of something but won’t pay for it, that’s called ‘whining,’”
businessnorth.com/daily_briefing/regional-fed-chief-urges-firms-to-raise-wages/article_715b14da-3769-11e8-a754-6b74fe8ee919.html

The industry being fucked is the first step towards making $300k starting.

until the robots take over

ive got a room mate who's going to welding school
I don't think he's getting 300k

Fake it till you make it.
Recruiters and HR are retarded
They don't know anything about the job.
All they want is a hire that's a "Culture fit"

>graduated with a double major in accounting and finance
>autistic
>didn't intern
>26k a year starting as some assholes personal secretary who gets shit on regularly

At least you got that. I know people that can't even get their foot in the door.

About to graduate, just got an offer for a job that pays 44k a year. kind of scared to become a wageslave. I just need to hang in there till my crypto moons...

Welder/mechanical assembler here. I had not realized how in demand I was until my boss pissed me off and I started looking for a new job. Was making 24 an hour and found a new comfy union job making 30 an hour within 2 weeks. It's amazing how places will treat you like worthless shit until you say you're leaving, then they grovel at your feet and throw counter offers at you. It's a great feeling.

>until the robots take over
Guess who runs the auto and laser welders?
WELDERS you fucking retard.

My company lost 12% of it's workforce in 4 months and started to panic.
They did a employee study and found out 87% of ppl wanted to stay but couldn't afford to live of the $12 base wage.

They raised the minimum wage to $16 and raised everyone who had worked there 3 years by $5 an HR.
Suddenly they we're only losing 3% of their workforce every 6 months.

are you that artificial intelligence user who lied on his resume?

Trips don't lie.
But ya, places don't know what they lost until it's too late.
I've seen guys leave and the company mocks them.
Then they are forced to hire 3 ppl to replace them
It's hilarious

Live cheaply (roommates, short/carless commute) to max out the money you can invest and work your way up to max out the money you bring in (see if another offer comes in and you can leverage the 44k company into offering 50k, consider switching jobs every ~2 years)

Nice.

>Is underwater welding a meme or can you actually earn big bucks doing it?
Dead men don't need money.

youtube.com/watch?v=AEtbFm_CjE0

Thanks for the advice, definitely trying for a short commute. It's in a low cost of living area (Columbia SC) so I'll hopefully be able to save up a good bit.

its the guy who pretended to be a PhD now pretending to be a welder.

saddest LARP

why don't you weld for an oil company?

wtf nigga how new are u

Whats a good trade to learn, unironicly ?

Software development.

doubt that t:b:h

>welding
>absolutely shit career
>telling a chick your profession is a welder
>she says wtf
>earns $8 after tax
>poorfag.jpeg

muh robots

employers are just like women

Women never admit they are wrong user.
Even when it's obvious

I am so sorry dude. Columbia is such a shithole right now.

>slowly killing yourself in strong magnetic fields inhaling vaporized metals
>300k starting
No.
>any job i want
you mean welding?

Where do you live? I'm an accounting major and everyone has said we make 40k a year minimum after graduation.

Sergey is that you?

The machinist gets paid more

He must not be a good welder than
Most welders in my area start out making about 250K a year.
Tell your friend to get 6G certified and it is an automatic 50K a year raise

Fake and gay.

Even if you could make that much money (which you absolutely do not) we can't all be millionaire welders. Market gets flooded with welders, demand and therefore wage goes down, people find more in demand skills instead.

Nice OP can you teach me to weld my dick to my asshole I'll kick you a stinky linky

>The machinist gets paid more
NOPE!
WHY? Because they are hired on a machine operators, not Machinist.
They start at $16 like everyone else.

>Market gets flooded with welders,
Even with high starting wages, welders are still hard to find.
A lot of people simply lack the dexterity.
Good example is Boeing in Auburn WA.
They interviewed over 300 TIG welders and only 12 we're able to pass the necessary Certs.
Was a 0.020in wall 1in 6al 4v titanium tube to a 0.033 plate fillet.
No suck back allowed
No colors besides silver and straw.
No burn through, even H.A.S. marks.on the inside.
Single pass only

AI is taking over that too. They've already started. Forget the welding career. Move on from your mistake.

All of that in a single pass is god tier

Its hard work to weld steel for eight hours a day, for 10 years. You earn really well only if you do specialist stuff like gas piping, pressure etc

Same I'm dropping beads all day for 400/hr 50 hrs a week in a very low cost of living area in the Midwest

can you eli5?

>yfw the liberals come for you

Attached: 0351_-_L6BRJuk.jpg (286x256, 23K)

It's ok, they'll buy our automated welding rigs in the next 5 years. Aerospace already delegates all of the tube welding to computerized weldheads. Oil/gas are buying the ID tube welding rigs now.
Welding as a profession is on the downward spiral

Attached: 1515943697497.gif (540x540, 1.13M)

>tfw work r&d implentation

can you suck my pen15

Automated welding already exists if you're working in a factory.

On site welders will always exist because nothing is unbreakable and sometimes you can't just remove the part and ship it.

>mfw ndt tech/weld inspector and i btfo welder soybois and ruin their career
feelsgoodbro

Attached: Corndogging_SurfingDog_WikiCommons_Surf_dogs_USA-1.jpg (970x647, 90K)

Exactly, cheaper better automated processes are replacing welders. They are only getting cheaper and better, every one of those machine directly replaces some dude and a torch

Attached: 1523142620490.jpg (1129x1200, 118K)

mfw master gardener
any soil patch I want
400k/yr
only 320 gardens left till grand artisan

Attached: smug.png (640x853, 443K)

Yes, and despite their numbers dwindling since the peak in 1915, there are still horses around and working.

Attached: 8680076.jpg (1024x576, 179K)

fuck some dude and a torch

>tfw employed in designing electronics/firmware for automated welding systems
I agree

Attached: 1375412415989.gif (250x250, 1.14M)

lol at the newfags always falling for this pasta.

Such a software engineer role model for the future generations

>All of that in a single pass is god tier
I can do it right now.
My leg length is still too big by .010 or so

Nigga, the welders run the laser and auto welders.
Guess who does the fit up? Welders.
Who sets up the machine? Welders
Machine welding is also only used if a weld exceeds 18in in length.
We've been using automated welding machines since the 1960s and somehow the push for more manual welders keeps increasing.

Citation: I'm auto well certified.

My cert card.

Attached: Fuck off.jpg (2036x553, 568K)

so whats your hourly pay?

i just got my lineman apprenticeship for a union company and im starting out at 33 hourly. I will top out as a journeyman at over 50 hourly in 4 years

oh yeah my overtime is double time and my benefits are god tier

impressive

Attached: mlady5.jpg (586x330, 24K)

So I'm technically an assembler. So my pay is only $19hr. (I have a $24 job lined up) They refuse to let people change job titles so.
It's funny because I have more certs than another other welder in my building.
But the welders can easily get $27 with their level 2 promotion..
But this is all clean aerospace welding. The stick guys at local ship yards are getting around $30+ or so

what happened to the 300k yearly meme?

all jokes aside welding is cool but its far from the best trade to get into. Linework pays significantly more, its also extremely hard to get into. Would not recoomend this shit honestly, I got lucky landing my apprenticeship

you're getting ripped off, I earn at least 500k/year

talk with your union leader

you make good money
the catch is you are going to get some disease that no one can explain and die at 55

>what happened to the 300k yearly meme?
Maybe if your an under water welder.
But you can get to 100K with overtime with a normal welding job.

>muh certs, can't no robot replace me operating this here robot
Nigga I don't give a shit about your certs that's the point, in short time they will hire turbo autists to slide in the tubes and sheet metal and press the button, the setups are moving to network controlled weld profile distribution miles ahead of shitty etherCAN networks, coupled with xray weld verification that are done remotely and soon automatically. These things already exist and are getting better, sorry bout it bro.

Attached: 1486357755254.jpg (418x405, 23K)

Zoom in on the cert card you neanderthal.
I have 3 Autowelding certs.
I also can operate our new Wolf laser welder.
Anyone who says automation will replace jobs is stupid fucking cuck.
Automation only helps us, not replaces us.

Please refrain from making comments about manufacturing when you clearly haven't worked in a world class facility.

>tfw I make visits to Boeing/SpaceX/Northrop facilities frequently as they are our large clients
I suppose arguing with a welder is pointless. You probably use the equipment I designed if your 'world class' facility bought anything new in the last 5 years.

You sound like a fucking cashier saying that you cant be replaced while simultaneously using a machine that's a few steps away from not needing you there at all.
