it was the first proper war Australian troops fought in and was more symbolic than anything
also over half of the deployed Australian forces died, most of whom did so trying to scale literal cliffs covered with machine guns because the british told them to land in the wrong spot. Per capita, New Zealand had the most losses out of anyone in the war.

It also wasn't the Queen but the Governor General, who while acting as her representative is effectively a completely separate position
