When children are adopted in Japan, is it the law that their family names have to be changed to the new family's, or can they keep their original name? I'm curious about this.
I don't know why an adopted child would ever want to keep their original family name, especially if they were adopted as babies or something, they probably don't even know their original family name.
I'm just speaking legally. I want to know how things compare between countries and what people are allowed to do in certain situations.
