I've almost finished North America. I get really autistic about demographics in this game, like how Slovenes begin to disappear, not enough Amhara/Tigray in east Africa, Yankee overtaking Dixie states before the civil war even begins, Alaska becoming 90% Russian by 1850, etc. none of this is realistic. But I've ascended beyond realism and now this is pure fantasy, ever since Texas became Albanian

Well this is in 1836, the game's end I put South Africa's cultures as Boer and Zulu in the beginning, and they ended up dominating the late game. I barely managed to colonize anything despite being surrounded by unclaimed land. Caucasia ended up fucking poor Azerbaijan for most of the game until it couldn't walk anymore :( I counted at least 9 wars between them over Chechnya and Dagestan

My problem with gsg is as follows
1. HOI4 legit sucks 2. Vicky is ULTRA repetitive and you can only do so many games since its basically the same shit over and over 3. CK2 requires a certain niche and if you don't meet it, not gonna be very enjoyable 4. EU4 is just a simple game with no real depth, numbers, strategy (other than gaming the AI) 5. Darkest Hour is very dated
That's what turned me off to gsg. After dumping in so many hours you realize there's really no selection. It's either Darkest Hour or another cookie cutter V2 play through. I guess if CK2 is your cup of tea it may be fun for a while but i couldn't get into it.

it's limited in any non-directly war related aspect, but once you grasp the organizational system, get used to the amount of tiles, and the supply systems feels a bit more unforgiving than HoI 2; it's hard to go back to HoI 2/DH

It gave us a WWII grandstrat free from all the archaic bullshit of Darkest Hour, and also much easier to get into then HoI3. Can anyone here honestly say they enjoy wasting an hour to fix their OoB every time they start a game of HoI3? Not to mention that, rather than needing to tediously micromanage industry like in other HoI games, HoI4's industry is both streamlined as well as more intuitive than the previous games. Yeah, it's true that HoI4 leads to more "ahistorical" scenarios, but isn't that the point? Why even bother playing the game if the outcome is predetermined form the start? Moreover, from a pure gameplay perspective, giving the player more options, whether they be historical or ahistorical, is a total success. Sure, Mosley ruling Britain never could have happened in reality, but it's fun to have the ability to easily do so in video game form. Overall, I feel that HoI4 is getting a lot of undeserved hate simply because it isn't a total copy of HoI3 with slightly better graphics. Of COURSE the game is different - HoI3 already exists, there would be no point to making the same game again! HoI4 may be different, but that's by design, not by some unforeseen flaw, and it should be celebrated for the changes it made, not hated on.

HOI4 railroads and roadblocks very heavily, the combat feels very distant and uninvolved, techs are boring and railroaded, and division design is a pointless clusterfuck.
