1. Central/nation states are overrated. Local sovereignty is far more important.
2. Adult immigrants are a net-positive even when considering the money spent on them because unlike local citizens they did not consume any of the state’s resources growing up and so basically any taxes they pay (no matter of little) makes them profitable for the state whereas native citizens first have to “pay back” what was invested in them before becoming profitable.

There is an army base called Lavarack barracks, next to it is a mountain called Mount Stuart. If the Chinese invaded and just sat on Mount Stuart, there are not enough people in the entire Australian army, to actually surround the mountain and stop the Chinese from being supplied or just moving out.

Australia though is basically logistically impossible to invade. The only real threat is cutting off trade routes. Hence Navy is the most important.
