What is currenlty the largest infrastructure project undertaken in your city ?

>pic related
>Lyon-Torino high speed / freight rail tunnel bridging mediterranean and east europe through France and Italy
>highly controversial
>mountain italian peasants don't want it because trains won't transit through their mountain shitholes anymore
>the french don't want to pay for it
>fake-estimated at 26 billion euros
>longest tunnel is 57km long

Again money wasted, for what 2 trains a day... There's almost no traffic between Lyon and Torino because Torino is in another country. They should rather improve the TER network.

It's not that bad, but it's true that money could be spent improving regional trains

>italian high speed rail network is rather developed and needs better linkage
>lyon will become a crossroads between northern, southern and eastern europe
>less trucks in the alps
>a gotthard-like base tunnel for us is too cool

Apparently everyone lives in a shithole where nothing gets built. Feels good to be French.

That would be California High Speed Rail, which is now currently estimated at $77 Billion for Phase 1. If it does ever end up getting finished it could truly change California.

If it does ever end up getting finished without cost cutting measures*

This project finishes next year. Longest tunnel is 14km. It replaces three ferries.

Doesn't it stop at Palmdale ? I don't think that it goes to downtown LA

Is it the floating tunnel project ?

Nope, it going to L.A. proper is a big part of why it's so expensive. The privately-proposed train to Las Vegas was planned to stop there.

They are redoing the southern ring road

Why don't they make one for the East Coast too between Boston and DC?

>infrastructure in my city
Citys gov planning to fix streets. Again.

Some desalination plants (Cape Town)

The next project they just started is a 27km tunnel with the lowest point at 390m (longest sub-sea/underwater tunnel)

No. They are considering it further north to replace another ferry crossing (Sandvikvåg-Halhjem). These are both part of E39, the road connecting the west-coast cities.

The federal government is paying for less than 5% of it, the rest of it is all California. There's eight states between DC and Boston which makes anything not done by the federal government extremely difficult. Having said that, there is a plan in the works to upgrade the line for $75 billion to get the travel time from DC to Boston down to 5 hours. If we see a democrat super-majority there's a possibility of it getting funded, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

But where in LA ? There's also the Regional Connector and the Purple Line extension, encouraging stuff there. But California still needs more rail.

Right to Union Station.

This absolute clusterfuck has been in construction for a half a decade now, it looks like it's straight out of city skylines.
Drving here is even worse than it looks.

Rebuild of the innercity so it looks nice enough for tourists. They've been working on it for 15 years now.

Ringroads are the best way to ruin a city for decades, just like Paris and its blight, the Périphérique

We shouldn't fall into this american meme of urban highways.

Great project then. But how will they integrate the new station to the historic one ?

What's gonna be the end result ?

There's an interesting youtube-channel you guys might like

A new tube network for London. Infrastructure here is criminally undeveloped and London gets it the best, there are only a couple of underground rail networks in the country it's terrible

Ironically it seperates the city from the most expensive area. Also they have all sorts of plans of building parks over the road so it doesnt divide the city

Pretty cool channel

So it's basically an RER, something that Paris did in the 60s 70s

Makes sense. Bur aren't rich people pissed off by this ?
